Brazil behind in work for 2014

How many events like these have not been behind work?

Countries like Australia, Germany and the US are generally ok.

Countries like Greece, South Africa, and most probably Brazil, are generally not ok - the latter exacerbated by doing two massive sporting events in the space of two years.

Just from recent memory how many times has a country hosted both the World Cup and the Olympics within 6 years?

There's Brazil, which is hosting both within two years, England likely to host one in 2012 and the other in 2018 and the states hosted the 1994 World Cup and the 1996 Olympics.

The States handled it well, but I'm interested on seeing how Brazil goes. Talk about not sharing it around though :/

West Germany hosted the Olympics in `72 (in Munich), followed by the World Cup in 74; there's the examples you've cited, plus the case of Mexico which Barkly has already mentioned. Aside from those, the two events haven't been hosted by the one country within a six-year timeframe - the next closest would be Spain (World Cup in `82, Olympics in `92), but 10 years is a fair amount of time.

You're right - it will be interesting to see if Brazil is up to the challenge.
