Was interested in this kid when I first read his bio now it seems actions do speak louder than words. It has been touted elsewhere but he looks a top 3 pick. Should be right at the top of our hit list IMO. I know that people are looking for key position defenders but Thornton and Livingston with Sporn as a smaller CHB at times, should have us covered for a long time to come.

Vic Country has kept its winning record intact in the Under 18 National Championships with a 22-point victory over South Australia on Wednesday.

The Country 12.14 (86) defeated the Croweaters 10.4 (64) in the second game of the MCG double-header, on day four of the state-of-origin carnival.

Vic Country set up its win with a six-goal lead at quarter-time, although like its first match against Vic Metro on Sunday, the South Australians fought back well, although they were unable to take the four points.

Brendon Goddard showed why he is one of the hottest prospects in under-age football, when he claimed 29 possessions (19 kicks and 10 handballs) in a best-on-ground display.

His touch of class was a shining light for the Country side, yet he also showed plenty of ability to win the hard-ball and he looms as a likely top ten draftee come November.

Ryley Dunn and Matthew Ferguson were also stand outs up forward, finishing with three goals each, while on-baller James Allan showed plenty of class as he racked up 24 disposals. Tom Lonergan, Kane Tenace and Cameron Hall were also fine contributors for the Country side.

Byron Schammer was South Australia’s best for the second successive game, racking up 28 touches and also confirmed his status as one of most promising youngsters in the land.

David Kellett (23 possessions), Daniel Bell and Steven Eichner were other impressive players for the South Australian team.

Vic Country got off to flier in the opening term, bagging five goals to zip, yet the 36-point lead could have been extended, had the white and blue not also registered six behinds.

The Vic Country’s tall forwards were on fire early with Goddard, Lonergan and Ferguson and all kicking truly in the opening term.

But the highlight of that period was Ferguson’s outstanding leap and mark over the top of the pack, which was capped off with his first major of the day.

After the change, Ferguson slotted through his second in the opening minute to give the Country a 42-point lead.

And while the game looked set to become ugly, the South Australians fought back to notch up four in a row and in the process hold Vic Country goalless for the remainder of the term.

The highly-rated Schammer kick-started the fight-back when he snagged one at the two-minute mark to post South Australia’s first for the game.

Vic Country took a 20-point lead into the half-time break and extended the margin to five goals at three-quarter time, after the Country added four goals to three.

Ferguson continued his fine marking with a twisting-grab in the forward line, but failed to covert, although he still had three majors, heading into the final break.

While the South Australians outscored Vic Country in the final quarter – three goals to two – Dunn posted two for the white and blue to finish with three for the match.

VIC COUNTRY 5.6 6.9 10.14 12.14 (86)

He is one of the standouts at the moment, but there is also Salopek, McIntosh, Johnson and a couple of others who will feature highly in the draft. It will really depend on what draft picks we end up with as to how many of them we can snaffle !!

If you want an overview of around 21 of the best going around in the TAC at the moment, we have a dedicated "Draft Watch" section which will be updated on a weekly basis as we run towards the actual draft. Feel free to drop in and have a read !!
