In a blow to St Kilda’s 2006 coaching staff, club legend Nathan Burke has quit the club.
The 323 game champion informed players of his decision on Wednesday night a the best and fairest and count and the news comes a day after dual Brownlow Medallist and good friends of Burke’s, Robert Harvey announced he would play on next season.
There’s speculation Burke may have had a falling out with Grant Thomas, although those reports remain speculation. The Saints hold Burke in the highest regard and his loss is a big one as they attempt to advance past the preliminary final next year.
"Burkey is an icon of the club and probably one of the more highly decorated players in the AFL," Thomas said at the time of Burke’s appointment in 2003.
"He's an enormously humble man and very selfless."
"He's all about the St Kilda Football Club and puts that first and himself second," Thomas said.
