how bloody good were we at the clearances tonight? smashed them in it. judd and stevo hitting some form, kruezer helping out at ground level, and hadley at the bottom of the pack. this is the biggest "team" positive we can take away from tonight.

We smashed the Bombers at clearances. However Essendon cleaned up at half-back and rebounded most of their goals because we still fall down at CHF. We don't have much answer to that at this stage, but the other pieces are falling into place.
Hopefully we can fix CHF at the end of the year.
Gotta say tho, when the ball hit the ground from a ruck contest i felt as if Essendon ran away with all the hard gets from the bottom of the pack. Am i the only 1? Its in contrast to last week, whenever there was a hard ball to get I noticed we got it pretty consistently.
not bagging them, but they are all receivers. scotland and carrazzo seemed to be playing different roles to what we saw last year.

Yeah, but is Hartlett the answer? I agree he's the obvious guy to play there, but so far he's shown little. A CHF is more than just a tall marking target, and so far he's not even that.Hartlett will be available for selection next week, and I still like the idea of having Cloke rotate through there as well.

I can't see Cloke at CHF - he's not mobile enough, or a good enough kick. Plus he's not a long-term option with that shoulder.
The only other prospect on our list is Austin, and I say that only because I don't know he can't play there, rather than anything he's shown so far.
Every year there'll be something left to do with list management, and this year it's a CHF.
Austin!?! Has he even played a good game for the Ants yet?I would prefer Austin at CHB... Hartlett will be the answer as he will only demand a third string defender... Teams will look to cover fish and fev first, possibly double fev and then harlett should come into it a lot better. Dropping and resting Kreuzer and Cloke down there will be good at times too.
our list management issues lie with our backline... tonight we scored enough to win nearly any AFL match... we just conceeded WAY too many points!
Completely agree here. Apart from the fact that their forwarsd didn't do as much scoring as their midfielders. I see our problem that we cant stick to our man when they get clearances, they seem to handball it backwards, then they have a diagonal line of them whisking it away. This happened in the first half and last quater.our list management issues lie with our backline... tonight we scored enough to win nearly any AFL match... we just conceeded WAY too many points!
It starts at the Half Forward line. Essendon didn't get many clearances. Most of their opportunities were created with run off half-back. We need someone who can consistently take contested marks at CHF to prevent those spills which favour teams playing spare men.Completely agree here.
