Thankfully Travis Cloke wasn't seriously injured when he was attacked on New Years Eve in Queensland.

But this got me thinking...
What if Cloke had received serious head injuries from the attack that needed him to be rested on or off the list for a while?

Do you think the RFC and its supporters would have, or should have, any sympathy for Cloke/Eddie/Collingwood after the feedback we have received from Eddie and the CFC over Polak and his injury.

Oh, that's right Eddie...you only rate Cancer as a serious injury or impediment to a player and his career!

:thumbsd:

the ruling should be black and white, pardon the pun...If the injury is sustained off field and jepordises the players immediate career, then it qualifies...Couldn't be any simpler than that...But oh no...Eddie had to **** it all up:eek:

:)Calling it exactly as it is, Mr Jangles. Couldn't be any simpler. One hopes the AFL prove themselves to be consistent, if and when, it does happen again. We all know it will happen again in some shape or form, worse luck!!!

Interesting thread :thumbsu:

Personally I would feel for Cloke, but purely because of their actions towards Polak I would strongly oppose them getting any special treatment now, no matter how badly he got injured.

Eddie tried to brush it off as a technicality with Polak, claiming the reason he didn't want it to happen was because we left it too late (because we had to assess him at training).

In the future, Eddie can still put his own players up for special treatment if he does it before the national draft because that was the public line he used.

what are you thinking? this is collingwood if they want something they get it. geez is it that hard.

Yep.

No need for us to sink to their level. Two wrongs don't make a right in this case.

But turning the other cheek still hurts!
"Elephants have long memories".
And all the other 'flip-side' clichés....

And if we don't sink to their level, then we a better than them in one way. A nice way, a cosy way.
And if we are bigger cants then them, we are better cants then them!! Aren't we?
You still can be the best aholes in town.

Mother Thresa was good at what she did.
And a Tyrant is good at what they do.

Just say "Pardon?" Fish...and I'll know I got through.
;)

It's really a non-issue, seeing as Cloke wasn't as seriously injured as Polak.

There's a stack of 'non-issues' where events haven't fully unfolded, and there are a million scenarios put forward for these...all 'ifs', 'buts' and 'maybes'.
Global Warning.
Nuclear Proliferation.
Water restrictions in Victoria.
Current World Economy.

Hasn't stopped people from talking about it.

Don't worry, a player will be seriously hurt one day with a different type of injury, and Eddie's 'Cancer only rates' injury prerequisite will be fully tested. and thrown out.

Then Cormick, you will look back, and be the first dude to say,
"Why wasn't Polak also included?"

Hindsight ain't hindsight, if you look forward.

I highly doubt I will. I have no problem with the AFL disallowing us putting Polak on the rookie list. Apparently 14 or so AFL clubs disagreed with the notion, not just Eddie. And seeing as their has only been two scenarios in the 15-odd years since the draft became big that may or may not have been allowed special consideration, chances are, there may not be as many as you're foreseeing.

If one is a precedent. One more will be enough. If it's happened once...

And what if, even worse, he had done a David Hookes and was killed. Would we argue that the precedent for adding a new player to the list only applied where the player was killed in a Tsunami? That's about the level of stupidity Eddie got to with his argument that only cancer qualified for rookie listing.

the age old problem with the AFL has been they stick to the colour grey, when it comes to rule making. ;)

i would hope we would reject their claim as strongly as they did ours
