I saw a Kennedy Vs. Howe thread and was thinking, Cloke Vs. Cox. Who would you pick and why?

I personally would prefer Cloke's output over Cox. I know I said earlier I never want to see Cloke again but Cox gets exposed when opposition teams go on the counter and transition too easily due to lack of pressure.

The pro's for Cloke is that he is far more agile and will get 15 possessions a game and will score probably a goal a game and before dropped was averaging I think 2 goals a game and 13 disposals.
The cons for Cloke is that I think that isn't good from a forward of his caliber and he lacked intensity and hunger for the contest and was quite frustrating.

The pros for Cox is that he seems to be a better shot for Goal and tries his best to win the ground ball
The cons for cox is that he is too slow, and gets exposed and gives our forward line a lack of agility and pressure and if the ball hits the ground it's like gone, as well as this he maybe gets 6-7 possessions a game and has roughly the same if not worse numbers than Cloke, as well as this Mason seems to have very poor hands of someone of his height.

I think Cloke is horribly out of form but would perform just as good if not better than Cox, defensively Cox brings our forward line pressure down but he is far more committed and wants to win more than Cloke.

I haven't researched numbers or anything but I just feel that it's a great debate, who would you rather, a club legend who is down on confidence or Cox a 211cm big man who has potential to be a great marking forward or tap ruckman.

What do you guys think, who would you rather? Could both be played effectively? Or is it that only one belongs in the team.

Cloke. Key mobile forward is crucial to every team. Personally, would have Cox play in the middle. Grundy and him rotate through for now. Cox isn't going to be a great mark, he often thinks it's basketball and taps the ball. Hence, he should be our number one ruck till Moore comes back and takes Cloke' spot.

Next week vs Freo, both.

Rotate Grundy and Cox more in the ruck and leave Cloke inside 50 but obviously tell him to run around.

Cloke won't be at the club next year though so the next time we play a game that matters (round 1 2017) the choice will be reduced to one.

So many puns could be had....but I digress.

The biggest issue we have with Cloke is the tendency to imagine Cloke being the Cloke of old, but will it happen again, that level of beastly forward (wayward kicking and all)?

If it's Cloke of old, then there is no discussion but of its Cloke of new, then why not the big boy

He has played what? 5 games of AFL taken a few good marks already. I have no idea how you can come to that conclusion.

Has showed more than plenty of KPF in such a short time.

Ideally the forward line would consist of Cloke CHF, Cox FF (change Ruck with Grundy) and Moore 3rd tall add the required level of ground level players and it would work but right now given that there is no Moore, our ground level forwards are lost in space and Cloke has played one good VFL game for the whole season. Cox is learning the game. If the aim is to win more games this season I would play Cloke until I was completely sure he was shot (which I'm 75% sure now). If teh aim is firmly towards next season, I'd be getting more games into Cox

The real question should be Grundy/Witts/Cox with obviously 2 of them usually being forward at one time and one in the ruck - or Grundy/Witts/Cloke or Grundy/Cox/Cloke.

Horrible selection to go with Grundy witts and cox - I thought cox has been a good selection over cloke because of his ability to go in the ruck - but if he isn't rucking surely cloke is a better option.

How many games have we won with both grundy and witts playing in the same team

Go watch all his games again. He palms the ball to himself every single time. He rarely ever clunks the ball first go. I just like him better as ruck. If he plays in the forward line, he needs a rover 24/7 Coz he won't take more than 5 marks in a match. He only averages 3 marks a game. That's no where near enough for a tall bloke, who provides very little on the ground. I'm sure he"ll get better overtime, but I don't see him becoming dominant.

THis is the question - you can't have Grundy Witts and Cox in the same team. It was worth a try to negate Gawn and it didn't work. Move on. If Grundy is our first choice Ruck then one of Cox and Witts has to be the relief Ruck. Cox offers more up forward and seems to offer just as much in the ruck. That leave aforwar line structure that ideally would have three of Cox, Cloke, White and Moore remembering taht relief ruck duties have to be undertaken.

Watch the Geelong game again. If he can do this:

He's got talent. He will only improve

I don't think it is Cloke versus Cox.

It is really White Versus Cloke.

Cox will become our ruck/forward. He is perfect for it. You can not just play Cox forward the man must ruck at 211. The fact that he can go forward take marks and hit the scoreboard means he has just taken that forward ruck position that we so long craved for. The days of Witts, QLynch, White, Chris Dawes, Gault being our ruck forward option are over.

This means we still need a 2 key forwards. Moore clearly is one. This leaves one key position forward left and it is between Cloke and White currently.

White no doubt has improved a lot this year, but the cynic in me tells me this guy plays well in the last year of all his contracts. Is White really a better option than Cloke as a key forward over the next 3 years??? If you seriously propositioned that to me this time last year I would have spat in your face and head butted you like a Russian soccer hooligan.

The safer bet is Cloke, he has years of performances to back him up Jesse has a few weeks. White has certainly staked claims to remain on the list but I clearly see him as depth only and not best 22 material. He can also play back which adds to his depth player credentials.

Going forward it is Cox, Moore, Cloke. Unless we pull some sort of miracle and land Michael Hurley.

If you are looking at the 2015 / 2016 model Travis Cloke then:

Cox is currently taking more marks, doing more 1%ers, doing better as the relief ruck, working harder.

Cloke at his best, would walk all over Cox in any department bar set shot goal kicking but, on current form he simply does not deserve a game.

Apparently Cloke showed quite a bit of his old run and appetite for a contest in teh ressies last week so, let's see if he can regain some of his lost hunger and ability.

Both should be playing. I can understand why Bucks sent Trav back to the 2's for a lengthy spell, if he's an inclusion next week, the ball's in Trav's court to prove he's worth a spot. Weather like the Port game doesn't help any big man, but weather doesn't dictate your effort and intensity, which in my eyes is what Trav has severely lacked. His last VFL game proves my point, even in a wet game he can still contribute. He needs to show that hunger when he gets back in the senior side to retain his spot, because when he doesn't, that's when he becomes a liability and the external heat comes which absolutely shatters his confidence.

Cox was the main target against Melbourne, and it was inevitable that there was going to be a time when he starts to get exposed. As much as he's developed, he's still pretty raw. I have no doubt that he can continue to evolve and learn to use his body more effectively and get BOTH hands up in a mark contest more consistently.

Both can play in the same side, I don't think they're competing for the same spot. Witts should be omitted, Cloke should come back. Grundy and Cox rotate Ruck/FWD probably 75-25.
