IN A surprise move, defender Colm Begley has been delisted by the Brisbane Lions.

Begley, who is in the Irish squad for the Toyota International Rules series, was delisted after playing 29 games for the Lions since being recruited at the end of 2005 from county Laois.

The 22-year-old played 19 AFL matches in 2007 but could only manage eight this season due to a quad injury.

Begley was listed as an international rookie in 2006, 2007 and 2008, and because he does not turn 23 until next year, is eligible to be to be picked up as a rookie by any club next season.

Considering we have the No 1 pick in the PSD - is Colm worth a shot?

I know absolutely nothing about this guy, what position he plays and his strengths and weaknesses so not sure if it's worth taking him in the PSD or if we'd be better off using our last pick in the national draft.

Or maybe rookie him?

He showed a bit, but rookie draft only, because we have a lot of similar players and we should use all our picks in the national and PSD trying to find higher quality players preferably in our weaker areas.

I would prefer for us to use our late pick in the ND rather than pass it up. If we pass it up other clubs secure other youngsters with their late picks in the ND, before we get a selection in the PSD. It makes no sense to be participating in the PSD at this point in time.

As for Begley he may be worth considering via the rookie draft but if we are going to recycle a player via the rookie draft I would prefer for us to select Hislop.

What you've said is right, but where it does make sense is when you've got about 10 guys who you rate similarly for your last pick and instead of taking one, you lose a couple to other clubs but then you have 6 or so of them train with you for the next week or two to figure out exactly which one you want in the preseason draft. Last year we could have gone for someone with our last pick but waited and took Stef Martin after seeing him train with us for a bit longing, I'd say we'd go for a similar process this year.
