Looks to have won the gold medal for the Mens Pole Vault at the World Athletics Championships. He took a gamble, missing the first two rounds, then cleared on his 3rd attempt. From there, he has gone on to blitz the field jumping 5.95m at his first attempt!!!

Well done!! The final was great viewing!!

Now he has jumped 6.05m. Equal 2nd highest jump in history. Championship Record to boot!

Hey Goalden Hawk, don't bag Edmonton - I used to live there and some of my family still do! It's a great place (have you ever been there???)

Sorry Kristin, I haven't been there, and I'm sure it's a great place. But it's hardly doing its reputation much good by presention for the 100m gold medal in front of an empty stadium! It just looks really bad having the world championships in such a vast satdium with so few people.

The blundering by judges (not Edmonton's fault) hasn't helped either.

Getting back on topic it was a great win by Dmitri, especially after taking three goes to clear 5.75. Apparently he wasn't even gonna compete today because of an injured ankle which he iced for ten hours yesterday, so to clear the second biggest vault ever today is a fair effort.

That's ok, Goalden Hawk.

I have noticed that there doesn't seem to have been a huge turn out - you must remember that Edmonton isn't a very big city though!

Also, it doesn't help that for some events the medal presentations seem to be the day after (or at least delayed for some time after) competition. What's with this?

As to the judges/officials making mistakes - the same thing happened in the swimming in Japan a fortnight ago. What's going on that in these elite sporting competitions, the officials (and timing equipment) aren't up to scratch!

Anyway, Markov should be congratulated on a top effort! (I didn't think we'd win any gold medals in these championships)

And he is only 26. He looks the most likely to get near Sergey Bubka's 6.14m. Great effort by Markov today...full of heart, and guts.

Pure Aussie Mate!!!! :D

LOL
