Recently had the misfortune of lowering my metabo tek gun into a drum of water after dark. It finished it off. Toying with the idea of getting a good quality cordless. Have a cheap 9 volt which is just a toy.

Anybody got much experience with cordless. You can get new dewalt on e bay for a reasonable price. Just worried they mightn't have enough grunt.

Dewalt of a decent voltage will have more than enough grunt.
For Tek Screws, drilling, and self tappers.
I actually just bought a Snap On Cordless rattle gun which i doubted, but it is an awesome tool

I think they are 18 volt. Coincidentally got an Austar man here at the moment and asked him about the topic. He has a 24 volt dewalt he swears by but says the batteries can go quick. Batteries plus machine = $900.00 which is a bit further than I want to go when you can by about 20 GMC 3/8 drills for that.

Thanks.

Right. Off to one of these e bay dealers we shall go.
try if you can to bid on one that is located in Aus ...as most of them on Ebay seem to be located in the US and their feedback is not all that desirable.
I was checking out the Dewalt gear just the other night

That sort of thing has stopped me bidding in the past. You wonder what the arrangement is. They say location Virginia Beach, Virginia and postage $30.00 express within Australia. Do they work through an agent or what.

Even with the Australian locations, would sooner buy the whole box and dice. They sell the chargers and batteries separate. Retail is probably still a better way to go.

My battery died on my Makita. Went to buy a new one and they change the design with a different style battery. To replace it was gonna cost $500+ for a similar model to what I had. To cut a long story short I found a guy who has old model batteries on E-bay. $40.00 delivered and it's still holds the charge like when it was new. So find and old one some-ones throwing out and get a new battery off e-bay. :thumbsu:

You might be better off going to a tool repairer/trader.

I know a place in Bayswater that specialises in Dewalt reconditioned tools.

Still great tools, come with 12 month warranty.

You've got to consider what kind of work you'll be doing with the drill.

If it's just for odd jobs, and 18v Dewalt is perfect. It'll last you a lifetime.

But if you're doing more intense work, like masonary or thick timber, you might want to go for a corded drill.

Bayford Power Tools, 608 Mountain Hwy, BAYSWATER

Is that the one swifty.

Currently bidding on a second hand 18 volt metabo with charger and batteries. Been out bid over night, currently on $132.00

Periodically I drive a lot of Teks. Principally been steel in the past but might be entering a wood phase as I'm doing the house up. Mainly just sad about destroying my old corded metabo. Am getting by with corded 3/8 drills without much bother and they actually have the advantage over a tek gun of holding the shank more firmly so as you have less wobble when you are starting a screw off.

You miss the clutch, though.

If anyone is interested. The 18 volt metabo (above) went for $314. Pulled the pin at $256. Second hand and all.

But purchased a 12 volt metabo for $102. Two batterries. Got about 300 sq metre of verandah ceiling to screw up, cordless here we come. Good fun.
