In the peak fortnight of the outbreak to date (25 August to 7 September), the COVID-19 case rate among 2-dose vaccinated people was 49.5 per 100,000 while in unvaccinated people it was 561 per 100,000, a more than 10-fold difference. The rates of COVID-19 ICU admissions or deaths peaked in the fortnight 8 September to 21 September at 0.9 per 100,000 in 2-dose vaccinated people compared to 15.6 per 100,000 in unvaccinated people, a greater than 16-fold difference.

Vulnerable members can be vaccinated. Kids are barely effected at all. But lets try for the overly emotive fear pr0n.

How many children have died of covid in Australia?
It's so reductive to dismiss anything short of death as barely effected

But anyway you asked why high vaccination rates were wanted, which has nothing to do with staying lockded down until 90%

Also reductive to use examples of groups who can protect themselves by vaccinations and the other who are largely unaffected for reasons to remain locked down until 90%.

There isn't a vaccine approved for children under 12. Should we wait until there is one?

Its going to get fast tracked as soon as the FDA approves it
It should be in time for Xmas

They turned on a vax passport that works in what 20 places Vic wide
Still think we could bring things forward a little for the vaccinated in Vic.
Not just horse racing for the rich.. No idea why that never stopped although small businesses had to shut up shop.
Yes I do $$ and lobbing.

Depends what site you get figures from 31st Oct roughly 80%
Dan will go trick or treat.
Hopefully a treat although before cup weekend you know there be no candy :)

Have I said that anywhere?
You asked why high vaccination rates mattered among eligible people, I gave you some numbers of how it breaks down to a % of total population coverage to get to the levels we've seen in places overseas that are coping with Delta without restrictions

You're tripping my man, may want to check your posts as there was no mention of any breakdowns or percentages of anything.

Aus population is around 25.8m
16+ population is around 20.6 m

90% of total population is 23.2 m
12-15 range adds around 1.2 m

so current eligible pop for vaccines is 21.8 roughly which means if we got 100% coverage it would work out to 84.4% total population

what we are seeing around the world is you definitely want to get above 75% total population coverage

that means we want at least 19.35 m people vaccinated which works out to 88% of 12+ roughly

so yeah we should be pushing for 90% coverage from those who can get vaccinated as a minimum

I always thought the idea was to get as many people jabbed as possible which could lead to herd immunity.

But been reading recently that these vaccines don’t seem to make that possible?
Herd immunity will come after you get jabbed and open up and it bounces around without killing and putting too many in hospital along the way
Obviously the more jabs the less clogging of hospitals

It will be interesting to see England in Winter
Their numbers are suggesting herd immunity is starting to have effect now

But this isn't a disease that effects children (severely). The fact some state Premiers aren't going to give us our freedoms back until we hit 90% is absolutely pathetic. We've been conditioned now to be happy about our governments allowing us to visit a friend (outside only) when we are both double vaccinated.

It's becoming absolutely criminal and I can't believe that some are still happy for it to continue until we hit targets no one else on the planet has achieved.
I mean, the states planning for 90 per cent vaccination rates are the ones that are open and don't want to lose their freedoms. Don't conflate Victoria and NSW with the restof Australia.

Also, you don't know how COVID will affect children in the long term, or ignore the fact that children get older and will then be affected. Imagine if society actually showed the kind of responsibility past generations did, got vaccinated, eliminated COVID and it didn't become an issue for future generations. Or we could hit the streets and demand our freedom to make others sick. When it comes to vaccines, everyone who can should sack up and get it done, and if they don't, quit whinging when people point out your selfishness.

Coronavirus appears to mutate quickly enough and people's immunity also wanes quickly enough that herd immunity is unlikely.

It's more likely to become endemic and have good and bad years like the flu, but with a greater need for good vaccination coverage to be able to deal with

Reckon we might start seeing higher flu vaccine uptake moving forward as well

if you have the certificate in the medicare app on your phone already and go into the app to view you should have an option to share the cert and if you have the services vic app installed on your phone it should show up as an option

if you dont have both of that you have to get to that point first which is where the fun of linking mygov to medicare can come in

if you don't have the medicare app, log into mygov (website) on your phone to view your certificate and share it with the Service Vic app.

Anti-vaxxers offering doctors bribes to fill out illegal medical exemptions
Doctors have been offered thousands of dollars in exchange for dodgy vaccine exemptions so desperate anti-vaxxers can continue to work.

Doctors are being offered bribes of thousands of dollars to flush Covid jabs down the sink and fill out illegal clearances for unvaccinated workers to continue in their jobs.
Four medical sources have told the Herald Sun of separate instances where money has been offered by patients to avoid Covid vaccinations, with proposed bribes ranging from $1000 up to $5000.

The drug, a cocktail of two antibodies called AZD7442, reduced the risk of severe COVID-19 or death by 50 per cent in non-hospitalised patients who have had symptoms for seven days or less, meeting the main goal of the study.

AstraZeneca’s therapy, delivered via injection, is the first of its kind to show promise both as a preventative medicine and as a treatment for COVID-19 following multiple trials. It is designed to protect people who do not have a strong enough immune response to vaccines.

Australians will be able to visit Fiji from December after the Pacific island nation hit its target of vaccinating 80 per cent of its eligible population.

Visitors will still need to meet several COVID-19 safety requirements, including being fully vaccinated and providing a negative PCR test within 72 hours of departure, but there will be no quarantine required.

Only visitors from Fiji's official "Travel Partner" list will be allowed. At this stage the list is Australia, New Zealand, USA, UK, United Arab Emirates, Canada, Qatar, Germany, Spain, France, Republic of Korea, Japan, Singapore, Switzerland and most Pacific Island countries.

The flaw in thier plan is doctors earn enough not to take bribes.
