Don't forget to go to the AFLPA website and vote for the young fella!

Young gun Cory Gregson has been named in the 2015 AFL Players’ Association 22Under22 squad.

The 22Under22 concept was introduced in 2013 to recognise the best young talent in the competition, as decided by the fans. To be eligible for this year’s team, players must be aged 22 or younger on Grand Final Day this year.

Gregson has been picked in the initial 47-man squad selected by the AFL Players’ Association Board.

The final 22Under22 team will be decided by fans, with the AFL Players’ Association calling on all footy fans to cast their votes by liking the AFL Players’ Facebook page and selecting a 22Under22 team from the 47-man squad.

This year’s 22Under22 squad has at least one nominee from each AFL club, with Gregson selected from Geelong.

2015 was a great debut season for the former gymnast, adding a new dimension to the Geelong forward line and bringing much-needed pressure and pace to the club. Three goals from 18 disposals, five inside 50s and four tackles in the Round 6 clash with Collingwood was a highlight in an unexpected year from the small forward after being taken with pick 47 in the 2014 National Draft.

Someone has very kindly put up some of Gregson's highlights to the halfway point of the season. His goals are just so bloody sweet off the boot- there is extreme strength in his legs because he can really roost that ball a long way- and he's such a nippy little runner.

He seems to have tired a bit in the latter half of the season but don't let that overshadow his achievements in the first half of the year. Get a few preseasons into this boy and he will pay the club back tenfold.

Unlike everyone above I'm gonna congratulate Grego on his first season and making the squad, well done little fella.
Goodonya, Jeff!

Seems like some people just can't celebrate good news for its own sake.

Getting a Rising Star nomination in your 6th game of AFL footy- particularly when you're a tiny little fellow- is no mean feat!

Congrats, but others were also deserving from Geelong. Bit strange.

why can't we have all three, Jimmy??
I think they all should! I just think Thurlow has played more like a 'senior' player, he's taken on a lot of responsibility and his kicking skills have significantly improved our backline.

Not only that, he's pretty underrated on the defensive side, he's been the best of our small/mid defenders in scores against. Much more difficult role he's played than Lang or Gregson and he's look more than comfortable. (Apologies if this seems like I'm downgrading Gregson, I'm not meaning to, more that I'm astounded they overlooked Thurlow!)

"Best mid/small defender: Jackson Thurlow; 14 matches; seven goals conceded; 0.57 goals conceded every 120 minutesThurlow has excelled as one of Geelong's leading distributors off half-back in 2015, but the 21-year-old's ability to keep his opponent in check has gone largely unnoticed. Thurlow, who is deceptively rangy at 190cm, can play on talls and smalls, with his powerful vertical leap allowing him to spoil or take intercept marks. - Ben Guthrie"
