Has anybody noticed Cotchin has been a bit off with his goal kicking? I don't want to bag the kid because he is a superstar but what I can't work out is how can he be so good with kicking and pin point passes yet can't kick a goal?

I'm suggesting maybe someone go and sit behind the goals in bright pink that way Cotch has someone to kick to. He'll never miss then. :p

At times it's more than his goal kicking, who the hell was he kicking out to from the behind kick out the other night?? Kicked to 3 North players and it wasn't a shank. I wonder if he is still a bit restricted kicking through the ball from previous groin issues.

I've raised this previously and got shot down in a barrage of Trent-love. Be careful...he appears unable to be fairly critiqued on this board.

But...you're right. Won't get to elite unless he sharpens up by foot.

and....I AM NOT BAGGING THE BLOKE. He's fantastic, but that's a little area for improvement.

set shot kicking is a bit wayward, on the run he seems to do alright tho and probably why he played on after his one-arm mark against norf

Having said all of this when you think about, how many guys in the AFL are actually that good at kicking the ball?? I would argue there is a small percentage in the game that actually kick the ball with a correct technique under no physical pressure.

Definitely a problem since with the sub rule midfielders will have to rest up forward and Martin's just a beast in front of the goals thats no problem but Cotchin's been kicking a lot of points this season and has only kicked 2 or 3 goals so far. He should do what Jack does and that is to spend extra time after training sessions on goalkicking or just kicking in general. He's already a gun midfielder so we don't need to worry about that. Maybe he should see the forward coach and work a little bit with them

He's still nowhere near the required fitness he needs to be due to so many restricted preseasons. One isn't going to cut it. He obviously has elite disposal when fresh, so I think it's just a fatigue thing and it will get better in time.

Agree Jack should be goal-kicking coach for all our players.

Goal kicking is a concern across all teams. Set-shot goal kicking is like a free-throw shot in basketball, there's no excuse for missing especially from players of an AFL standard, they should be be practicing and training to improve it every week.

I don't know if it was the hype leading up to the draft but I think that he needs to sharpen up his footskills in general. Countless times he kicks it at the feet of his team mates. Its obvious that he is a good kick, maybe it's just a concentration issue or something. His handballs in traffic though, delicious...

Lade's been spending a lot of time on simplifying Jacks kicking technique.

Cotch should kick his set shots with his left foot, I swear he's more accurate with it. He hasn't missed his set shots by much, I believe he's had a pretty light workload as far as kicking set shots away from game day because of his achilles injuries.

I also find it a little strange that it's only the forwards who go out and have 20 odd set shots before the rest of the team come out, with midfielders resting forward now more than ever, they all should be out there getting use to the conditions kicking for goal.

How many times has Cotch had a set shot for goal? Once in a blue moon. He's had bigger priorities that he needed to develop.
Yeah, spot on.

He kicked a couple and looks dangerous in the forward line so I don't think it's an issue. Everytime he is in a contest you know he will come out with the ball. It's a freakish thing.

How good is Jacks set shot kicking just quietly? Huge improvement.

Not true. I noticed that ~2hours before the Hawthorn match, Cotch was on the ground, alone, having a few shots at goal in the rain. I dare say it was probably more a psychological thing than working on his goal kicking as such, but he was out there taking some kicks.

Okay, I was more thinking that if it's good enough for a few to do it why aren't they all out doing it.
