Agree, I remember watching a free kick, I think it was in the Essendon/St Kilda Nab Cup game, where a player leant over to pick up the ball and ran into a players legs who was just standing there over the ball not moving. The ump gave the player a free kick for high contact. They need to wake up to this.

Stanton did it in the Saints/Essendon game. He saw Armitage coming at him front on and just rammed his head into his chest, before proceeding to throw his head back and act like he'd been shot.

I don't blame Stanton for taking advantage of a poorly managed rule, but it's frustrating to see it in action.

You only need to look at the Prelim from last year and Milburn's shocking attempt at drawing a free. He already had the ball, and simply ducked to get out of the congestion.

At least Thomas' head was down to get the ball. Yeah he milked it, but he was still going for the ball. But Crameri didn't appear to me like he intentionally went in to bump Thomas. It almost looked like he was surprised to see Thomas dive at the ball, and instinctively tucked in for impact.
