"Kingsley Hunter again. He probably likes crumpets"

Pure Gold! :D

I think the crumpet is perfect as it is so its a thin layer of margarine or nothing for me. Bugger all these other condiments spoiling it.

Compared to him Hitter, you are but an amature.

I must say I have been trumped. You are a God, Espy. But we must remember that I brought crumpets to BigFooty, although he furthered it. Kudos to you, Esperito!

By the way, it's amateur.

Personally I don't like crumpets. :)
Not surprised. Crumpets with sardines & tomato sauce would put anyone off them.:p

I loved them with lots of thickly spread butter and honey. Especially when they're hot and it's cold and wet outside; and you've also got a strong white coffee. But a combination of me deciding to get rid of the excess flab I was carrying around and Sydney's drought means I don't eat crumpets any more.

I'm a little surprised at how widespread the Vegemite on crumpet trend has spread.

I thought it was just me. Clearly, there are many people of discerning taste on these boards.

Square crumpets are a travesty of nature. They should be banned.

And don't put your crumpets in a toaster - that's just asking for trouble. Under the griller please.

Golden crumpets cook unevenly in toasters I've used...you can get caught with black edges, or an uncooked centre.

You need a toaster with a special crumpet button (so to speak). I've currently got an excellent Sunbeam chrome model. Don't mind them a bit burnt myself, but they've gotta be cooked through.

DCFC is perfectly correct with the griller assertion, but convenience rules when you're on auto pilot in the morning.

I subscribe to the :

Crumpet = Sweet topping (usually honey)

Muffin= Savoury Topping (usually vegemite - plus poached egg if at breakfast)

Rule

Smoked Trout dip, now your talking.

Crumpet at any time of the day agrees with me.

I'm also partial to a bit of ham and melted smoked cheese with a dash of sweet chilli sauce on my Crumpets.
That's it ! I'm off for a snack.

A true crumpet traditionalist. I like it. Needs to be grilled for about four minutes on the holey side, and then turned for about 20 seconds to toughen up the bottom and seal in the margerine and spread of choice.
