Would that be the old style cork that floats or the modern twist type?

I wonder how Watts or any of those other players would have developed if they had of being drafted into a team with an excellent development program like Hawthorn or Sydney. I don't have the answer.

My guess is no different. Sydney and Adelaide both rid themselves of Lewis Johnston, who clearly had talent. And Watts is as soft as ever even after working with Georgie Stone.

The guys formerly in charge took skinny guys who could run a bit but I'm not sure the athlete meme is totally correct. Definitely went to the "when they put on muscle they'll be much better" well too many times for sure but some of the guys like Cook and Gysberts for example weren't even average athletes.

True

Cook and gysberts were just lazy pieces of shit who didn't have the mental capacity to play AFL

Seems a bit revisionist. Easy enough coming up with a list of reasons someone has failed after they've failed; they're hardly going to prove you wrong. When Gysberts came straight in and racked up 30 possies and McLean was storming around in the VFL, we thought we were going to come out of that deal smelling like a rose garden. No one was screaming skinny / lazy / ****wit at that point.

I'm assuming prenderghast became obsessed with draft results and times and completely ignored the fact they would have to play against hardened and tough men

Funnily enough, our young guys were developing well under Bailey - unfortunately they were all recruited for a specific type of footy, not all types of footy.

I agree with Gysbert I was even a bit disappointed when he was traded as he had a bad injury in 2012 and I felt if he could get a good preseason he may come good again. What's your thoughts on cook. I honestly don't know much on him, I know most Melbourne supporters wanted Darling. Then when cook came you got the same nonsense on the MFC website about how Lucas Cook continued to improve in the VFL. I never watch the vfl so I had no idea.

Cook was a good U18, just wasn't up for it - he was a reach at 12 for sure, but would have gone 2nd round.

Don't have much to offer on Cook either - all I saw of him was half a NAB cup game. Seemed to lead up and provide a target so is probably every bit as good as Dawes.

Our old VFL reports were awful. 2 touches or 30, promising signs, developing well, needs to work on a few areas, repeat ad infinitum.

Except wasn't Cook so highly rated because of how good his hands were? Basically a skinny Dawes who could mark. Agree on how shit the old VFL reports were. Every time I read them it sounded like we should be dropping half the team to bring those blokes in.

Fair Call I was pretty happy with the Mclean trade especially after Gysberts debut

I was basing that more on the fact they both have vanished into the VFL wilderness and dont seem to be banging the door down on a return

Likewise, was giving it large to a few Carlton mates for a while after his debut. Luckily they've got short memories. And their team sucks with or without Brock.
