He was awesome in the pre season and really looked a player.. proved it was no fluke against collingwood on the weekend. Tight call considering the depth we've got now.. but he would have to be really close to being in our best 22. Huge effort off the rookie list (Add him to the list, we must be one of the most fortunate clubs recently in getting talent off the rookie list - anyone want to prove/disprove this theory? last 5 years max)

He's going to be extremely valuable with height, pace, and a booming left foot kick.

Yeah, he has come along in leaps and bounds after being rookie listed last year.

He is quick, has a lovely penetrating left foot, tall, good mark... all the attributes you really want in a player. The best thing is he has only played 3 games but always backs himself and never looks flustered.

We had 5 rookie listed players on the weekend- Hayden, Haddrill, Sandilands, Gilmore and Grover. Fair effort from the recruiting staff.

I will put my hand up and admit that I was WRONG, I did not believe that Daniel Gilmour would make it as an AFL Footballer. As a South Fremantle supporter I have watched him quite a bit over the years, but I believe he has made a quantum leap in his development as a player over the last 12 months. Come on Dasler I know you did not rate him that highly either have you changed your opinion also?

Melb is the only other club that comes close... Robertson, James McDonald (both over 100 games), Jolly, Williams Walsh, Ward, Jamar, Nathan Carroll and Broadbridge. 543 games.
Essendon also has more games from less players in Rioli, Mark Johnson and Peverill (and Ben Haynes). 247 games.
We've had Grover, Haddrill, Haines, Hayden, Sandi, Siegert, Webster and now Gilmore. 178 games worth before this year.
Surprisingly, West Coast is also ahead of us... 187 games from Cox, Fletcher, Green and Lynch.

I'm starting to notice some more worrying deficiencies in Happy's game. Yesterday showed his complete lack of ability to use his right side of his body and the more worrying was the constant lack of keeping his feet when pressured physically. However the thing that really stood out was 3 or 4 times when running to a 50-50, Happy would slow down and look at the opponent and then pull out of the contest as if he was scared to make body contact.

On a brighter note Clint Jones was absolutely, positively excellent yesterday. He has come on leaps and bounds this season I honestly believe he could be a smokey come draft time. The speed and skill has ALWAYS been there, but he has "bulked up" and added high marking and a physicality to his game. I'm honestly excited to see him progress in this fashion. He must be the most exciting talent running around in the WAFL as a "mature age" player this season.

Ryan Murphy was excellent. Lead well, marked well and kicked well. He is doing everything that is being asked of him and looks as if he has put on a little weight. Really impressed with him to date as he has thoroughly blossomed since coming across to South.

Siegert was crap, Thornton was excellent providing run from the backline and shutting his man out of the play.

Watched him a lot as a Colts player and have to say I have seen all those deficiencies many times.

Agreed mick, but they are starting to stand out to me more now than they were then if you follow my thought train!!

You are on the right train, from memory those deficiencies that you have mentioned were the very ones that in the end, ruled him out of U18's selection. The final 25 that is.

This is what we pay assistant coaches alot of money for, work on players deficiencies. A coach must do some one or one training to force him to get proficient on the other side of his body.

I have been happy with Gilmores progress, but they (Freo staff)may already be working on sorting out the right side of his body, we can only hope.

While I'm here McManus was BOG for the Gummies, Wally Forman who is not a noted Dockers fan, was very impressed with Macca's game, Wally was almost drooling!!.

Agree wih masai in that the coaching staff will be working with Gimour to close up a few of those deficiencies. Haven't noticed Happy dodging the 1 on 1 contest but I'll keep an eye out for it.

On another note... Murphy appears he's gonna be a good one. Everyone thought Freo was crazy to pick the guy so early in the draft but it appears Smart did his homework.

Not everyone only those ill informed fools who knew nothing about the kid.

It was interesting to read when we made our selections they stated we got 4 players rated in our top 10. Now I guess that top 10 didn't bother taking into consideration the 8 or so players guarenteed to get taken before us? But even so, I thought it was a bit optimistic.

Now though, looks like we've picked up a few gems.

Hows Mundy, Campbell going ?

Whats the story bout Dunney not getting full games prior to when he was injured ?

Mundy has been getting 17-23 possessions per game as a backman and has been in Subi's best players a few times. Mundy was rated by some as the best defender in last years draft.

Campbell hasn't been spectacular but apparently (haven't seen him play) looks like he may be one to perservere with.

IMO Murphy and Mundy have out performed Dunn this year (prior to injury).
