Bolded players are the only ones we can realistically say no deal to as their loss would be too great. Post-Hird midfielder McVeigh is in AA form. Ryder and Gumby are the foundations of our future.

If we were offered a combination of first rounddraft pick + one of the non bolded players above, we would almost certainly need to say yes. More than that and it depends on which players were wanted (say for example, Lovett, Monfries plus first round for Kerr and second round would almost be barable) -- we lose a ball getter and gain one, we lose a line breaker but have quite a few of them at the moment, we downgrade our first round to a second round in a reportedly strong draft.

Sorry I must have misjudged your faith then. You must have a hell of a lot. "Potential is far far over-rated" "So are KPPs in the modern game" do you mean players like gumby or ryder? "it only takes one or two players to improve" yeah i can see you have GREAT faith
 
The thing is as Long pointed out.... We had the chance to recruit Kerr, except we chose Davies. :eek:

I doubt he will leave, as Mike Sheahan's word has about as much credibility as my 3 year old nephew's; but if Kerr was to leave:

Carlton would have to be even more naive than we thought to go after him. How more unbalanced could a team possibly be?!?! The loss to Essendon highlighted this. They absolutely smashed us in the midfield, but their forwards (other than Fev) & backs are rubbish. Why would they then want another midfielder in the mix, and one that would take another large chunk of the salary cap that will already be stretched and no doubt broken with Judd; Stevens; Fev and 34 #1 draft picks?

Having said that Essendon do not have a history (or at least recent history) of recruiting established players to bolster our list immediately. We've taken on young guys with potential (McPhee; Cupido; Wellman; Cole; Barnard; Denham) with varying success; recycled older or troubled players (Zantuck; Young; Michael; Camporeale; numerous rucks) with varying success; but no established guns spring to mind. Whilst this may have been primarily due to Sheeds, I cannot see Knights changing this trend.

Collingwood would be favourite to secure Kerr if he were to leave IMO. They always endeavour to secure such players and Kerr would top off their workman-like midfield very nicely.

Perhaps Melbourne would be the main competition, as Bailey could put any of their players over 25 on the trade table at seasons end if they do not improve this season. Guys like Green; Bruce; Robertson & to a lesser extent White would still hold decent trade value - but probably won't be around long enough to see success at Melbourne.

Hit the nail on the head, im just sick of Carlton getting away with under table deals. But your right, their list is incredibly unbalanced

If they got a couple of decent backs, Waite would be able to play forward where he is most suited instead of having to play back. Fisher would then get the third string backmen instead of the second one. All of a sudden their forward line is not that bad.

The fact they kicked the second highest losing score against us proves they are capable of kicking goals (and also that our backline is struggling).

Carlton are not as far off it as many may think. They just need to secure some quality back men.

Back to Daniel Kerr. I would love to have him, but not at the expense of a player of the quality that the eagles would surely demand (and fair enough too).

Think of this - what if Gumby becomes as good as any other CHF in the game i.e. Franklin, Brown, Lucas, Pavilch - who would you prefer then?

Carlton are screaming for Key forward and they offed their best prospect for Judd. Who is to say that they will definelty win out of it if Kennedy devleops into a good CHF.

We have a good nucleus of mids that we need to devleop such as Houli, Reimers, Jetta, Myers, Hislop, Hocking, Lonergan, Monfries, plus guys lke Stanton, Watson, Winderlich and Dyson. The core is there! Plus if we can draft well this year, it will set us up.

We invest the time in them like Geelong did. Look at Geelong now - they have the most even midfield unit in terms of depth - comparable to Essendon circa 2000 and this is why they are so good - someone always steps up to fill the void when one of em has bad game. And this unit was built over 2-3 drafts. We are doing the same. Have patience.

I woudl love Kerr, but how much is too much, and how will affect the club - i.e. what happened when Dimma left?

Ryder and Gumbleton have more talent in their earlobe than Kennedy has in, well you know the saying

They should be very untouchable

I wouldn't trade either of them on their own for Kerr let alone having to couple it with a likely high first round draft choice

I appreciate it pains all our delicate sensabilities but for Daniel Kerr there wouldnt be many I wouldnt trade. You have to give something good to get something good a lesson Malthouse and Sheedy struggled to grasp to their detriment. I would give Gumby in a heart beat (yeah I wouldnt like it) but seriously he has had chronic hammy injuries, has proved nothing and Kerr is a sensation an answer to our midfield prayers......
 
Thought I had better put my thoughts down for the record, so that after the event I can claim to be consistant ;)

If Kerr does come to Essendon:

Kerr is a great player, should have won a couple of Brownlows by now, and will now that he is at a great club. His disposal is excellent, the best in the league, and he will no doubt help Essendon win a Flag or more...

If Kerr does not come to Essendon:

Kerr is a hack, it has only been Judd giving him the ball that has made him look good. He can't kick the ball for quids, and with his terrible off field behaviour I wouldn't want him anywhere near my Club.
