So Gough has retired. No big surprise.

In all the reminiscing there seems to be a fair bit of reference to his hat-trick in Sydney

They liked the way he smiled when things went right, as when he carted 51 and took 6 for 49 at Sydney in 1994-95, or grabbed a high-octane hat-trick there four years later.

Tim Lamb, chief executive of the ECB, said, "Darren has given an enormous amount to English cricket and he will be remembered as one of England's best ever fast bowlers, having been a key member of the Test team since his debut in 1994. Few will forget his hat-trick in Sydney in 1999 or his amazing catch at Lord's against the West Indies in 2000, which, along with his bowling, helped turn the series England's way.

Am I wrong, but I'm sure it was at the MCG that he got that hat-trick...

Yeah, sorry, but it was at the SCG. Happened late in the day, and we melbourne viewers had gone to the news (bloody channel nine) and missed the whole thing.

It's a shame that he's gone he's the best that we've had for about 15 years but I don't think he was quite as good as he thought he was.
