Dean Wallis was sacked by Essendon FC today:

"Basically I won't be re-contracted for the 2014 season and I'm moving onto greener pastures," Wallis told AFL Media. "Anyway, that's life and that's what happens."

"I will probably explore other options outside of football, but I'll never say never. Twenty-seven years in the industry and probably the way it finished is a little bit disappointing. but that's the way the club has chosen to go and I respect that."

The Ox said on SEN this afternoon that the club had issued a 4 sentence 'short' (not long) press release stating Wallis was gone. It came as news to Scotty Lucas, who was on air at the time.

No, I heard that it looked like he was gone too but obviously nothing was announced, it may have just been a rumour because he might have been telling people he hadn't received a contract as yet...

Bloody Fraser Brown, if I remember correctly.

We were the best team in the comp that year. Even the coaches from the time agreed on that. One that got away.

There was a lot of mistakes made that day, and the team as a whole never real got going. Still it is one of my worst football memories. I prefer to remember him for that awesome bump on Hanna in '93.

Think his time at the club was up though.

Or Mercuri had to kick straight from 20m. Although the rest of the team failed that day.

Probably a good move. Surprised he wasn't moved on after last season.

Ses broke it to him according to a news article I read. Slowly it seems we are getting rid of some dead wood and getting our shit together. I am pretty impressed with Ray Gunston right now. Need to keep reviewing and assessing each part of this club...
