Lets get out of the rule book and start talking footy again.
Since the beginning of the 2005 season, 5 players have made their AFL debut for Freo.
Duff, Peake, Crowley, Mundy and Johnson. All look like they could have long 100 game plus careers.
Compared to the previous 2 years, we had a few who are likely to be 100 game players, but a few who almost certainly won't. At least all at still at the club, none have been moved on.
Schammer, Sandilands, Webster, Dunn, Gilmore, Murphy & Dodd.
The previous 2 years had 12 players made their AFL debut, 10 of them Post Drum. 5 have gone, 5 look to be entrenched, 2 are fringe.
Woods, McPhee, Haddrill, Ugle, Simpson, Polak, Medhurst, Siegert, Haines, Thornton, Browne, Hayden
Go back another 2 years, and you see why Drum failed. Only 4 still at the club from 12 debuts (but a pretty good 4!).
Taylor, Bolton, Shipp, Clark, Grover, Longmuir, Hasleby, Brown, Pavlich, Bootsma, Schell, Cunningham.
Might as well keep going... 97-98. Only 2 still here, only 2 others still elsewhere... 7 gone for good.
Black, Clucas, Carroll, Sinclair, Whitelaw, B Dodd, Michael, Feddema, Holland, Maher, Walker
96 had 8 debuts, only Waterhouse and Clement were big sucesses, 4 others had a crack
Harding, Mitchell, Waterhouse, Brown, Koops, Toia, Clement, D Parker
95 saw 27 players make their AFL debut... (WC had 25 debut in their first year, Port had 21, not sure about Adelaide), about 7 or 8 had good long careers (either here or elsewhere), about the same were gone at the end of the year, the others were fringe players for a few years, then gone.
But, I think the future is looking pretty bright ATM. 8 players who played last week made their debut in 2003 or later.
