merry xmas everybody,

i spotted a thread on the main board talking about the best 10 defenders in the AFL, and apart from a couple of gallant richmond faithfuls putting his name in there big kel moore doesn't get a mention.

it may be my bias but i think he's just about the best negating defender in the league...thoughts?

(i also think that by the end of '09 big will thurstfield will be getting silvagni comparisons)

LOL, one good year doesn't make you a top 10 defender.

Scarlett
Rutten
Bock
Fletcher
McPharlin
Firrito
Pratt
Hudghton
S Fisher
C Bolton
Glass
Lake

There are a few better than Moore at the moment.

Well said Sante.
If Moore's currently in the top ten, the League is poor for backmen.
Moore still has to fire up in the Seniors for a few years yet to be fully recognised

Having said that, the reason he was put in the leadership group is that he is widely respected down at the club.
I never realised that till I was told just before he got the nod.

Moore had a far better season than those in bold. And he's a better defender than Sam Fisher. Not necessarily a better player but solely as a defender Fisher isn't much chop.

thers no way fletcher is still top 10 backmen, yeah he has been for last 10 years, but not anymore. would put d. morris in front of him. and mcpharlin hasnt done much for a while, croad to replace him. pratt and moore would be a coin toss for 10th spot. hudghton would be next one out due to age, with pratt/moore, harley or egan in there(egan would be in top 10 if fit). next would be a fit j.rivers.

on 2008 form easily top 10, behind only scarlett, Hudghton Bock and firrito, was bloody awesome and well and truly better performed than the others mentioned in 08.

Career wise not even close to top 10 needs another 1 or 2 top shelf seasons to make it.

I wouldn't rate any of our KPD's top-10, but they're on the verge and of those currently in the top-10, a few will move out.

I was pleased to see Glass found out last year, he's considerably overrated IMO and without that champion midfield he looked like any other struggling KPD at a bottom club.

Interesting that the question doesn't specify KPD's only, but nobody has included any players you could define as a small defender.

Edit: Oh I see, you listed Moore in that list.

No. There is no way Kelvin Moore is in the top 10. It takes years of consistent performance to be even considered for a top 10 defenders list.

How many years has Bock been an AA CHB?

I can't remember him being rated as a defender before this year.

of that list scarlett, the veteran fletcher...the rest have had their days in the sun and going forward I would reasonably expect that Kel Moore could deliver every bit as much as any others listed..

I spose it depends whether your assesment is over the course of career to date or poised at season 2009...coz there's a big ****en diff:confused:
