Do you ever get that strange feeling that you have been somewhere and done something before? It can happen in an ordinary situation (driving down the road, working etc) but can also happen in situations you have never experienced before (going on holiday to a different place as an example).

Do you get DeJaVu, and what do you think causes it? Or have you never experienced this phenomenon and are puzzled about it?

Discuss.

I'll help you out for starters. It's two words and none are in upper case.

The word is deja vu.

There is no doubt that deja vu exists, I have experienced it. What is debatable is what it really is. I tend to believe the argument that you merely think you have seen or experienced something before, yet you actually haven't.

I once had a semi-erotic dream about a woman I had never seen or met before. A week later she came into a retail outlet I was working at and I served her. It was awfully difficult to focus on serving her as I felt that I knew her and had been intimate with her.

If I had seen her in passing before, it did not register with the conscious part of my brain. If the unconscious part had taken notes and caused that dream, that is truly freaky.

There's already a deja vu topic, at least I think I saw one the other day...

Get it a bit. A couple of theories are that an ancestor experienced a situation very similar or that you had a dream about the situation that you don't remember having.

AFAIK it's just your brain processing information but your conscious not really registering it, and if you continue to process the information you feel deja vu when you do register it consciously, because your brain has actually seen the information before.

Anyway...

So I really did sleep with this woman but just didn't know it? Not sure whether to laugh or cry.
