Not footy related per se and not sure if this can be moved somewhere more appropriate mods.

I was at the Heidelberg United v Melbourne City game on Tuesday night, and I was lucky enough to be in the VIP area of the Heidelberg end.

Result aside, it was a great night, made even greater by meeting and witnessing these two Collingwood greats.

With each of their footskills they no doubt could have played either AFL or Soccer.

Top blokes to boot always smiling.

What did you witness them doing?

Didak and Licuria played in an exhibition game before a Victory match last season. Didak seemed to be very skillful, as you would expect I guess.
In some ways it's unfortunate he chose afl over soccer. He would have been on a salary of tens of millions and world famous. He and daicos have a very rare natural ability that if had been dedicated to soccer could have seen them up there with the Robbie Baggio types

Daics wouldn't have missed that penalty.

Yes world football might have been their bag.
Its funny if you think who in afl may have translated to world class soccer types.
I recall in the international games nathan buckley was the most natural round ball handler.
So Nathan Buckley could also have translated well.
Pendles look a natural.

Other teams? Kouta?
Gary Ablett either of them. Etc
Can you imagine a Socceroos team of AFL types

Daicos played a bit of indoor soccer. His cousin married into my extended family and played in the same team. He reckons that Daics was pretty good.
Didak would have been fairly good.
Saw Bucks kick a soccer ball off the deck. Not that natural when he didn't have it in his hands.
Remember a story about Ablett playing social games. Smashed it.
Apparently Kouta wasn't that good from what I've heard.

Fascinating.
One thing is for certain, soccer is huge mega money if you make it, afl great money only.

Lol, I think you're underestimating the depth of the global talent pool in Soccer just a tad there!

Didak was one of my all time favourites purely for his silky skills but even at his best his output was never quite good enough to warrant being amongst the truly elite earners in AFL, so it's even more doubtful he'd have reached that level in A League/NSL either let alone throwing him into the mix at international competition level where he'd be competing against millions of others. The truly elite Soccer stars are on the books of professional clubs in their early teens and usually have years of academy experience before that stage too. With the money involved in Soccer youth development becomes a very competitive game and as such development starts much earlier than we see in Aussie Rules, whereas in Soccer it's widely considered impossible to reach an elite level if you're not in a serious academy setup by 14.

With all that being said though I've always thought Pendles could have been world class if he grew up playing with the round ball, his natural composure, vision, decision making and skills would have translated perfectly to a deep lying play maker role in Soccer, stylistically speaking his natural game is a perfect fit IMO.
