Was at the game today. We sat on level 2 for the 1st half and then went down to level 1 after half time.

Was sitting there on the wing in the great southern stand and there was a bloke sitting there with a melbourne jumper and scarfe on who was very very vocal supporting Port. I assume in the hope that we can get the draft pics.

I find this a disgrace. If your at the game as a melbourne supporter then support melbourne. If you dont want melbourne to win, then dont come to the game with jumpers and scarfes etc.

Poor form i rekon.

Disagree with some of your post.

The bloke is obviously in the wrong for supporting port vocally.

With me i came to the game in my melbourne gear but am iafirm believer in that we need to win less than 5 games.

I was genuinely hoping port would win because i want what is best for the club and i dont believe todays win will do us any good for the future.

Everyone wants what is best for the club but alot of us see things differently.

I still find it difficult to believe any melbourne supporter would have genuinely wanted us to win today knowing that we could potentially get two superstars in this years draft.

Stupid comment. Going from 2 wins to 3 is not like going from 4 wins to 5.

And the person referred to in the original post is clearly an epic ******* who should be put to death.

Ofcourse going from 2 wins to 3 wins is not the same as 4 to 5.

But by winning today it is not likely we will get the priority pick considering we are almost guaranteed to beat Freo and we are a good chance to beat richmond and kangas.

So its not a stupid comment at all if you are a fan that wants the Priority picks.

If you 2 believe we are better off winning as many games as we can than thats your opinion.

Like i said we all want what is best for the club.... but see things differently.

No I only want us to win 4, but I can see Richmond and the Kangas beating us pretty easily (their coaches are in positions similar to the great Bomber Reilly in 07). Especially because we can rest a few players for those rounds! We we're up and running against a reasonably team, it wasn't worth throwing it away.

Getting the 3rd win on the board was great we can now struggle against Richmond and North. If we win one of those games we could always just line up a VFL team against Freo (and then tank to lose). I don't care if we make it as obvious as Carlton in 07, we will be the winners at the end of the day.

Ricky 15 ...its a hard one....and I for one won't have a go at you for being 50/50 re us winning.

I know that I have mentioned the "No More Than 4" thing in some of my posts.....

BUT....

Man...when I saw The Cougar pass it to Ricky P. .....and when I saw that moron Chad Cornes ...and when I saw umpire 22 not pay that free against The Rodent for blatant holding the ball... the "No More than 4" flew out the window.

...then it was just like old times again.....and I was yelling the loudest for us to win.

I sang the song for the second week in a row, and it really was just the best tonic for the Club and for Jimma.

Nothing beats a win....getting draft pick 4 or 5 instead of 2 or 3 , ain't the end of the world. Really...any of the top 10 lads are worthy.

I'm just looking forward to 2010 with Wona , Garland and Watt 4 getting back into that team full time.

Go Dees. Every Heart Beats True.

Supermercado, I am highly stressed at the moment and id think the majority of our supporters will be to.

The club has too much pride to tank.

Im sure ill have a nightmare tonight of Tom Scully running around in that ugly purple guernsey.:thumbsd:

Knowing our luck we'll probably send out the Casey Scorpions against Freo and the AFL will take our picks away for cheating.

Either that or we'll stooge the 21-0 Saints in the last round.

Playing with improved self-belief and trust and comfort with one another is more important than winning four or less games to get number one and two draft pick instead of say, just number two. Hell, Freo need it more than us. Picks no.1 and 2 don't guarantee anything. Go through the draft history and look at where all the champions were taken in the draft. Means a little bit but it's not the end of the world. Give me winning games and marked improvememt anyday. Cameron Bruce is Melbourne's best player and he came off the supp list.

I'm scared... that's all I have to say.

The thought of Scully running around in another jumper next year is pretty frightning in itself but... I have to admit... I enjoyed today's win. I thought we played well all day and definetly deserved the result at the end of the day. Jurrah was an absolute superstar, kicked 4 goals and played his heart out... even earned 133 SuperCoach points for what it's worth ;)

I'll celebrate today's win but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little worried right now. With all Geelong's injuries and our confidence on the rise... who knows... we MIGHT even beat them next week... who knows. Scary shit I must say, scary shit indeed.

Newton to full back, Valenti full forward, Garland to ruck(in his moon boot) , Blease to CHF... no Scully you are ours!

This is absolute drivel. I can't believe you are actually worried that you might beat geelong...imagine the confidence and growth your team would get from beating them. Play out the year and try and win every game like the demons of old would. Tanking is the worst tactic ever brought into the game.

I'm not worried about beating Geelong, I hope we do tbh. As you said, it would be a massive confident booster however, the reason I said I was worried is because we have a few winnable games coming up and if we we're to beat Geelong this week, I can't see us losing to Richmond, Kangas & Fremantle of all teams.

Fremantle down here is pretty much a lock, a definite win. So if we beat Geelong this week, that puts us at 4 wins. Then we have two winnable games against Richmond and North with a definite win against Freo that could see us finishing with a maximum of 6 wins. 6 wins would mean no priority draft pick, no bottom of the ladder finish and NO TOM SCULLY... and that would suck tbh.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be happy if we do win all three of these games and more BUT... If we do and Scully get's drafted to another side, becomes an absolute AFL champion and we're sitting here saying to ourselves "that coulda been us" ... that would hurt. Considering this is the last draft before the Gold Coast absolutely ass ****s everyone... I can't say I WANT us to miss Tom Scully. But hey, maybe it's just me.

The people who matter at the club won't be tanking. Fortunately, the people who advocate for tanking (a.k.a. "list management") on these forums speak only for themselves. They should not in any way be taken to speak for the club. I'm proud to say that no club with Jim Stynes as president and DB as coach is going to give it a second thought.
Doesn't mean we won't get Scully, though.
I don't blame some supporters for getting desperate, but they're making it out to be much worse than it actually is.

boys lets put it into perspective... in 07 we took morton at pick 3 and grimes at 14?... i know which 1 i would pick now... and how bout joel selwood or rich at 7?... the most obvious arent always the best anyway so lets not stress to much... id be disappointed if we dont end up with scully, but say we finished up with trengrove, id be far from shattered... were guna get quality no matter what...

and there is no chance we will get close to the cats this week... beware the wounded... were guna get our arse handed to us cos the cats have to do it...

No, we won't beat Geelong. Despite have a rough time of it lately, they are still gunning for the premiership. We are gunning for respect and confidence. We may come close, but we won't win. But still the run home is very good. I predicded consistant winning patterns at this time of year. We've already won two games in the easy run. (Although the Port Adelaide win was unexpected, so thats a bonus). So we could potentially win 6-7 games. More then a 50% winning record in the second half of the year. If we did that in the first half of the year we'd be thinking finals.

We could potentially be the new Hawthorn of 2006. Although our flag may come a year later then theirs did.
