Oh! that looks nice!!!! :thumbsu:
Can't see why it couldn't be used for an AFL match, but would there be much interest over there?

Not sure if they want to or if its their sponsors. Fly Emirates would probably make a big push to get an exhibition game there if the facilities were in place.

Hopefully against Hawthorn! :D

AFL bid to push game in the Gulf

By Caroline Wilson
April 13, 2006

THE AFL's global ambitions will take another step forward next month when league boss Andrew Demetriou travels to Dubai in a bid to cement a pre-season game in the United Arab Emirates early next year.

Demetriou confirmed yesterday he had scheduled talks with Emirates Airlines chiefs with a view to scheduling a game involving Collingwood, the club it sponsors, next February.

An AFL representation, to include football operations manager Adrian Anderson and projects officer Dean Moore, will also meet an Irish delegation in Dubai to shape the future of the international rules series and decide whether the Australia-Ireland Tests will be cut back to every two years.

With Melbourne well down the track to achieving an exhibition game against another Victorian club in the Chinese city of Tanjin in October, Demetriou confirmed the AFL's platform of increasing its exposure overseas.

"Over the next few years we plan to hold more international games as exhibitions and pre-season clashes," said Demetriou. "We're planning a game in South Africa in the near future. The Sydney-Kangaroos game in Los Angeles was a key feature of Australia Week over there.

"I'll be chatting to people about the potential of a game in Dubai. It would either be a NAB Cup game or NAB challenge match in February. I'm told they're prepared to build a ground for us in time for it."
