Dylan Smith

Sorry if you've already threaded this somewhere and I missed it (obviously not a regular on the Dock board), but I heard tonight that Dylan Smith has just been elevated off the rookie list onto the senior list at Freo.

I had a lot to do with Dyl as a youngster (him, not me!), coached him as a junior, and know his family quite well. His older sister is actually an opening bowler in the Aussie Women's Test team, so it's quite a family.

Can I just say how rapt I am that he has been given another shot at it, and I congratulate the Dockers on their decision. He is a brilliant young bloke, and if he achieves as much as he deserves, you should have yourselves a wonderful pllayer over the next decade.

He must have a bit of talent getting picked up at #6. I remember his first few games at the Kangas and I thought he'd be a player. No idea what happened since and I can't say I've followed his progress through the WAFL.. but good luck to him, hopefully he makes it 2nd time round.

Cheers for the info. Hope he does well and sounds like a good bloke. Might be a similar story in reverse to Bell's.

Is anyone going to to believe me that Freo is searching for a hard at it midfielder yet? Connolly knows that outside of the 22 and Dunn (who is developing and currently injured) Freo doesn't have any other options on their list. Thats gotta be why Smith is getting a look in. That is Smiths style of play. Thats why we'll be looking to Carr and (to a lesser extent) Stenglien at the end of the year.

Although not as desperate as the eagles were when they were looking for a key defender when they elevated Jones this year Freo having Smith as an emergency just might mean he has something we are lacking.

I hope Smith can get himself established in the Freo side and have a long and successful career with the Dockers. He was treated harshly at Arden Street - fair enough if the coaching panel didn't think he'd make it, but it was bloody ridiculous that David Bourke got a chance to prove himself in the seniors but Smith didn't.
