Has anyone seen him train or heard anything because i love him already and believe he will become a cult hero if he can cut it, i was partying when we drafted him ive followed his games a bit and seems like a great talent even without his weight advantage

I don't understand all the hype about Clarke, and Moore.

There not going to do anything for 4 years if they do anything at all.

I doubt we'll get much use out of Clarke. He is behind Schmitt and now Moore size and position wise. However I think Moore will be a steal, as word out of the club is he is really impressing the coaching staff and they are talking about him actually getting a run in the seniors this year, which means he could be special.

Where did you hear this? I haven't seen anything like this.

Ed clarke will prove you all wrong you doubters have faith in him he will be the next BIG thing;) but seriously he has played on and beaten tambling etc so why you doubt him i think his an absolute steal could be a sam mitchell absolute FREAK at stoppages

Nothing's changed since the draft really at which time every AFL team including Sydney passed on Clarke... I wouldn't mind at all if he became as good as Mitchell, but it is not certain to happen at all.

Have you actually seen Ed Clarke play?
If he's so good why is currently on a rookie list?

He is good everyone passed on him because of his weight advantage and of course there is no gaurantee he will make it but i think he will be one of our brightest stars. You tell me who else has kicked 6 from the midfield in a carnival game

He looks a good prospect but he was dominating because of his mature body, he will be playing against grown men now and will not be able to dominate by using his strength

Well then the same could be said about Sylvia too couldnt it?

Well no it couldnt, Sylvia was picked at 3 with alot of room for improvement, you cannot compare the two, when one was a priority pick and another player who was lucky to be rookie listed.

Well actually... Who cares about position drafted... Did that matter with Kirk?

Fact is, Clarke and Sylvia both had a weight advantage before they were drafted, who's to say Sylvia has room for improvememnt and Clarke doesn't.

Pardon me for intruding on your learned discussion - but did anyone actually see the 2004 Sydney AFL Grand Final where, although it's not elite level, the game was played by men. Clarke was one of North Shore's best players (another big occasion performance) providing plenty of midfield drive and kicking 2 of 10 goals. As for the men, his first tackle decked the opposing Captain who needed recovery time and the recipient of his second tackle took no further part in the game (both fair tackles).

As for Moore, he is a fine young player. But check the TAC Cup stat's - when Clarke played against Moore in 2004 (NSW/ACT v Dandenong) Clarke got 3 Morrish Medal votes for another gun inside onball display. Moore played wide of him and took a lot of handballs received......... until Clarke tackled him, and he took no further part.

In my humble opinion, Swans gambled (and won) on drafting Moore knowing that strange body shape prejudice would allow them to grab Clarke with a priority rookie draft. Both players - Swans win twice.

PS On body shape, Leigh Mathews would now be undraftable, like Greg Williams.

I watched about half of that game on Fox (though not live). Swans regulars will also have seen Clarke play throughout the season in the Canberra AFL league where he was a regular stand-in for the Swans reserves. That, too, is a senior competition and is of a higher standard than the SFL.

My recollections of those games is that he didn't star but did look handy.

Fair point Liz, but IMHO the Swans reseves games don't count for much - especially if you are a stand in player in your draft year.
Whole point about Clarke is that he produces when it counts - his 4 TAC Cup outings produced 3,3,3,1 votes + dominant at Naional Championships then stole limelight from Richard Tambling when he was vice captain of the "Allies" game where 32 possessions at least convinced the Swans.
He was also a strong player for North Shore in the SFL 2003 Grand Final when he was 17.
What's the crime about being able to get the footy?
But no more from me - we all watch with interest at what looks like a very handy group of draftees and rookies assembled by the Swans in 2005.
Please resume normal transmission.

I'm not sure how you can say Swans reserves games don't count for much.

Do you consider that Demons reserves games don't count for much - ie playing in a second tier competition, one competitive in its own right? The Canberra league may be a small step down from the VFL but it is still mostly comprised of players for who this is their comp. And I have seen no evidence that the Swans reserves players don't take it seriously.

And for players like Clarke (and Shaw, Hayes and Potter the previous year) I would have thought them at least as important if not more so than U18 Championships and SFL games since it gives them an extended opportunity to audition in front of the Swans coaching staff for a place on the list the following year.

I can assure you that Andrew Ireland and Paul Roos sit and watch every Canberra league game played at the SCG and probably many of those played elsewhere (senior duties permitting). If I were an Ed Clarke I'd be doing my absolute best to impress in those matches.

That said, I wasn't trying to play down the efforts of Clarke in those games. He was a good player and would have impressed them with his skills. He just didn't dominate.

I've seen a lot of Ed Clarke playing for the Rams for the past 3 years.I first saw him at 16 and thought he's got a big body for a young bloke but by god he can play.I also thought that he would have to improve his defensive part of his game and not be so selfish when inside the forward fifty. At 18 I had exactly the same doubts on his defensive game and his selfishness but he has taken his footy to a whole new level.Goalkicking midfielders capable of winning 9 out of 10 clearances from centre bounces don't grow on trees.Sure he plays loose but the pro-active work he does will force opposition sides to watch him.The best of Ed will not be seen until 2006 when he's on the senior list full time.

Would you prefer Ed to be more defensive i think his the midfielder we need as he is all attack and mostly our midfield is defense
