Arsenal have confirmed that Brazilian midfielder Edu has signed a five-year contract with Spanish giants Valencia.
Quique Sanchez Flores was announced as the new Valencia coach yesterday and the club also revealed Edu, a free agent, would be at the Mestalla next season.
A story on Arsenal's official club website read: 'Edu has joined Valencia on a five-year deal.
'The Brazilian said his farewells to Arsenal at the end of last season after his contract came to an end.
'His final game was at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, when he came on during extra-time to help his side win the FA Cup [against Manchester United].'
In a statement yesterday on the club's official website, Valencia said: 'President (Juan Bautista) Soler has confirmed the signing of Edu, the Arsenal player and Brazil international, who will join the team on the first of July and who will play for the team in the next five seasons.'
Edu, who since joining Arsenal has been capped by his country, had featured as a substitute in recent weeks after recovering from a broken toe.
He joined the north London club in January 2001 from Corinthians, after the move was delayed when he was refused admission to the United Kingdom because he held a fake Portuguese passport.
