With the Crows ahead and the Geelong game fresh in mind, it keeps bugging me that we don't seem to have a 'mongrel' player who strikes fear into the Milburns of this world every time they decide to target one of our young 'uns. Connor, McGuane, King tend to show a bit from time to time (and even Schultz has been throwing his body around of late), but where is the fear-inspiring Balme, Mal Brown, Ricky McLean or Captain Jack of yesteryear? It just seems so 'un-Richmond-like' not to have a hard man.

Should we specifically recruit for 'mongrel' next year?

(Apologies to DC. He still may make the grade. But looks more like a Sheedy than a Balme.)

I know what you mean sometimes I just want Richmond to start a massive punch on (When we are getting beaten). I think Luke McGuane is our enforcer and he is no slouch just look at him last week the guy was possesed with making sure every tackle was one ending with the opponent on his arse.

DC is an angry little wranger so he will be good once he situates himself in the team. However sometimes I see Simmo out there knowing he was once a black belt and want him to pull out some Bruce Lee type display knocking out someone like Stephen Milne or one of those annoying pricks.

Only if he can fit in an mould his style to compliment the current side.

No question that the Tigers are travelling brilliantly now, and should only obtain players that will compliment the current side, not interrupt its balance.

I must say, it's been exciting to see the young Tigers put it all together, and deliver on their potential.

Well done to TW and his team of assistants for extracting the maximum output from this up and coming group :thumbsu:

Make sure the Enforcer Job Add reads:

Enforcer Wanted:

Must be over 195cm tall and around 100kg. Willing to be suspended at least twice a year for belting someone, and enjoys targeting opposition's top players that appear to be carrying injuries.

The ideal person should be able to hold down a key position at either end of a football field, specialise in gaining the hatred of opposition supporters, and enjoys intimidating opposition players.

Apply in person to the Richmond Football Club:thumbsu:

I'd prefer a monster FF/CHF only who can smash opposition up. Or a ruckman ala Stafford

Yeah it's a real pity Staffords not around now with Simmonds, perfect good guy bad guy ruck/tall froward change IMO. Charman could have been that guy.

I'd rather the team collectively grew some nuts and got tougher. Teams like the hawks, geelong, adelaide have big bodied boys who will always be ready to dish it out if required.

The cats spent a year focused on the gym pre season '06 and kept it up during the season. Hurt their performance for the year, but we all know the rest of the story.....

Now that we're approaching having the right cattle, we need to get the kids on the angry juice (creatine, weight-gain 4000, etc), and try and put on at least 5kg each.

The SOG boys should def be regulars in the pre season as well. :thumbsu:

Problem with that is that players like deledio, cotchin foley would lose pace and thats the thing we have going for us at the moment, i think McGuane is our enforcer see the bump he layed a couple of weeks back was awesome :)

Maybe we should have kept Tim Flemming on board? Or traded for Solomon? I think the list is doing nicely I cant help but feel if Jake Kings talent matched his balls we would have a fine 'enforcer' not saying it can't happen though i'm just saying hurry up and show it!

And I think our backline is pretty hard school Moore reminds me of Kellaway and is taking strong grabs McGuanes body is only getting bigger too and don't forget what a bonus Polak will be when he returns!

I don't get this preconception that size hurts your pace. Look at any other sport in the world and its the bigger stronger blokes who are quicker (to a certain point). Running backs and wide receivers in NFL, the wingers in Rugby, 100, 200,400m sprinters, etc. These guys are all big units, but their legs are in proportion to the rest of bodies.

I think AFL players can sometimes get too caught up just putting bulk on their upper bodies. There is a big aerobic factor in Aussie Rules, but I think some of our blokes need to find a better balance of upper body and core strength and explosive speed, to go with their endurance for us to go to the next level.

The Lions a few years ago had this blend. The Cats have perfected it, and have big bodies all over the park, are still quick and can run all day. They sacrificed a season to get there and its what we need to aim for if we are going to be a genuine flag contender over the 5-6 years rather a team that makes up the numbers in the eight.

*tucker dreams back to year 12*
Creatine has been well documented to not lead to any real substantial growth in muscle size or density and that sustained use only leads to an increase in weight due to greater water retention in the muscles. Creatine has been linked in some studies to an increase in the activity of "satellite cells", which play an important part in the rebuilding and growth phases in muscles. However these studies do not show wether it is creatine or the excercise and training regimes that causes this.

In summary
Creatine is overpriced bullshit. No-one with any smarts uses it.:thumbsu:

Getting a bit side tracked but.... Mate have you ever used the stuff? Try proper weight training for six weeks, and then get on a course of decent creatine (AST Creatine HSC is my tip) and notice the difference after a week or so. Where you could lift 30kg you can lift 35kg, or where you could do 10 reps you can do 12 or 13, and you just feel mean....

It basically works on the amount of energy your muscles store (water retention is a part of that), and how quickly your muscles recover between sets. No won't put muscle on by itself, you need to train consistantly and get on the protein as well. Also its not great to use during heavy aerobic training as it dehydrates you pretty quickly, but if there a legal way of training harder and putting on bulk quickly, let me know.

Once you've done 6-8 weeks on the stuff, stop, train hard to maintain the level, and sit back and enjoy the gun show.... :D
