G'day all. Just thought I'd get a bit of advice if possible.

I've had a few invites to engagement parties before, but never been able to attend. Got my first one coming up this weekend and was just wondering what would be a good idea for a gift?

What have you purchased/received before that has come in pretty handy? I'd like to get them something useful and preferably something that no one else is going to get them. Looking to spend probably up to around $80. If it's a good idea I may ask someone to go halves and get something a bit more expensive (I don't want to sound tight, I'm just pretty broke at the moment).

Thanks in advance :thumbsu:

I always thought books were a good present

Will depend on how long they have been together and wheteher they live together or not (if they are how long)???
I have always gone down the route of some nice cyrstal glasses or possibly a voucher. When I got engaged we ended up with over $800 worth of Myers vouchers:thumbsu:

Depends if you know the bloke more or the chick. I've been to a ton of these and mostly I've know the bloke for years or both of them. As a rule I try to get something that the bloke will use more. Most people will by shit that is chick oriented like nice towels and picture frames. And when you get to the wedding, it's all going to be on a bridal registry, and I can guarantee that you aint going to be finding any Clint Eastwood DVD sets on there.

It's also good to get together with mates and get big things that are real cool and useful. For example: A whipper snipper, a barbeque, a digital camera. These are all gifts I've given with the help of a few friends. You'd be supprised how much money you can raise, especially if everyone puts in $80. All you need is 10 people and you're gonna have a gift that the parents of the couple might not match.
