Thought he deserved a thread on him even though I hate the Poms. But this little Irish pocket rocket is a gun on the one day format. love the way he plays his cricket. Scored a hundred last night and was labelled the Michael Bevan of England although he reminds me more of a Hussey type player. Slowly coming into the test side and should be one to watch :thumbsu:

I watched his first 50 last night. He does seam like a pretty determined player. He seams to step up when he is required. However the test team is a lot more demanding and the jury will be out to if he can be a success in both.

Seems to be completely lost against pace bowling; I think he's going to struggle on our decks.

ODI and T20 specialist.

Can I just point out he was playing Akhtar who was bowling 95mph with no difficulty and Gul bowling 92mph inswinging yorkers

His problem is outside off stump but so is the majority of cricketers

There are question marks over his playing of the short ball and this isn't going to be tested properly in one dayers however fast the bowlers are.

Bevan had a similar problem....loved to fend off those throat balls to gulley.

I dont remember the short ball causing him problems against Pakistan .It was the moving ball outside off stump

The poms are disliked in sport by just about everyone - don't think it's only Australia, you just notice them the most because they're the traditional rival, the "old enemy". South Africans in particular - **** me they hate the poms more than we do. And I mean legitimately hate; we just think the poms are a bit wanky. It's because, generally, England are terrible winners, and they have a track record of talking the big talk without delivering - if one can't deliver, showing evidence that the self belief is there is the next best thing. But historically they haven't, because they don't often have it.

When I flick a test match on and your boys are involved, you can't go half a bloody session without Australia being referenced. When I pull up a cricket article written by a pom, Australia gets a mention just about every time. It's like clockwork. You think it's like that here? You bet your arse it isn't.

When I'm in England, I get "Australia this, Australia that", snide remarks from customs about the sun and surf, bullshit about the rugby which I don't even follow. England is obsessed with Australia, not the other way around. The "Ashes or nothing" mentality they've struggled to shake over the years has been evidence of that.

England virtually never comes up in general conversation when I'm talking sport amongst mates, unless a sporting event against them has recently been played or another is nigh, i.e. only when they're relevant. Do you live or have you ever spent a decent amount of time here linda? Because I can tell you something right now - Australians don't spend anywhere near the time mulling over what your lot is doing like you do them. Your "third in the olympics" jibe there in your sig is another strike.

Inferiority complex. Honestly. Actual belief in what they're doing, which can come across as delusional, yes. Perhaps you misconstrue that.

We live in a better country, better weather and up until the last few years have flogged you in most sports.
The inferiority complex if anything is the other way around.

Well of course it was, the ball was swinging prodigiously in this series and all the batsmen were in trouble at some point.

There wasn't a lot of short stuff being bowled was there which makes sense if it's swinging around like that but it doesn't change the fact that there has long been a feeling in county cricket that he is vulnerable to the short ball.

I think this post shows your problem .You always feel you have to justify your existence by being better than England .
Just sit back and enjoy what you have Australia is a lovely place

I think you will find England are disliked in sport because of colonial history .Every football game we play for example is always the biggest for the opposition. In any sport when playing England the oppo lift by a certain percentage because it is actually England .Im surprised England actually do as well as they do when this is what they are always up against

I dont think we are bad winners at all its just others not being able to take defeat .Everyones the same around the world its just a tag people give to England because of dislike and a certain amount of envy .

You have been living through domince by Aus so certainly they are always referred to as they have been the benchmark .No cricket fan, Commentator player etc ever mentions England in Aus Im sure

You are right no Australians ever make fun of the English be it not washing, rain Warm beer etc etc

In the next Paragraph you mention about spending periods over there Sadly it is only twice ( im a bit of a girl really and dont like spiders and snakes ).Whilst there not one person mentioned England or made fun of me :rolleyes:.I come on this forum ( for about five years )to talk cricket whenever ths contest is looming I do the same on the Rugby league forum So why wouldnt I for a bit of fun two years ago put something about the olympics as it was relevant at the time and havent bothered to change it since .

Again with the inferiority complex .look what happens when I make a little joke it for some reason makes you type a long post when you could of simply of said :p Dont worry about England mate

I have never seen him play in county cricket somehow must have missed him at TB over the years .I havent heard it mentioned around the circuit that this was a problem .I struggle to see in CC who these bolwers are that trouble him as there arent any really quick bouncy ones around unless Harmison and maybe tremlett

( im a bit of a girl really and dont like spiders and snakes )

haha yeah I don't get along too well with Spiders either. Imagine going for a midnight snack and bumpng into one of those huntsman beasts. Thats enough to make me think "**** this I'm packing my bags".

Anyway that was a pretty good reply you wrote there mate :thumbsu:

Not sure of any other countries players that have been awarded MBE's for winning 1 series.

He seems like another player who just hits the ball far. Hand-eye coordination however is technically not too flash.

M.S. Dhoni but a slightly better version.

I think you are the one that needs to sit back and relax. Most Australians couldn't give a rats arse about England other than at cricket. But if it makes you feel important to assume that then be our guest.

Nah, I wrote a reasonably long post because, as with most posters, I gave you enough respect and benefit of the doubt to respond as if you were simply giving a misinformed opinion. Given the absolute drivel you've thrown down here though, it's clear that you're just a troll with a chip on the shoulder.

Chips never get near my shoulders my stomach is another story .
