Is it really that difficult?

Move to the left if you want to stand still and enjoy the ride... the right side is for people who are on the move. It annoys the crap out of me every morning when you have some plodder who doesn’t understand this basic rule.

And it’s not just escalators, but travelators at the airports and even footpaths. Anyone who doesn’t comply, should be banned from all public places... for life!!!

Most escalators aren't wide enough for you to be able to overtake someone without pretty much pushing past them, no matter what side of it they lean to. That being said, I always walk up and down them when there's the space to do so, not only so that I don't hold anyone else up behind me, but because I'm usually using them to get somewhere, and not as a joyride.

Mate, they don't do it on the road, why would they anywhere else. Same goes for shopping centres; if you're dordelling with NFI what you're doing, keep left.

Left unless overtaking.

No awareness!

There are rules? Are these laws? Rules set out by the owner of the machine? The manufacturers operating instructions?

Location: Adelaide. Hmm. Here in the big smoke we actually have decent sized escalators. ;)

I've stopped being nice to people who stand on the right. In Europe, it's like everyone knows this rule and doesn't dare break it. It's great.

It's usually the asians that just stand there and stare into nothingness. They have no awareness whatsoever, whether it be walking or driving.

The worst is when they take up a full pootpath in a group of 20, ambling along at a snails pace leaving no room to pass at all.

I didn't know that it was specifically the LEFT side when it comes to pedestrians, i see people stay to either side (including in the same period of using an escalator, footpath or walking area at the shops) - you have to zig zag through and it's not that great.

I tend to power walk, jog or run from place to place (yes i'm a hyperactive person), thus getting stuck behind stragglers is infuriating.

Depends on who the person is.
You have to have respect for pregnant women and the elderly so in these cases you should be patient

Wtf? So when someone becomes pregnant, their commonsense disappears? It's not like we're asking them to walk faster or sit on the hand rails, just take half a step to the left!

I also hate people, unfortunately we can't all go around shoving people out of the way. We're not batman :(

Find a gym, fat man.

You know the other one I hate?

Knob-heads who leave their food wrappers on the table in food courts during lunch hour when seats are at a premium. Either they're not smart enough (like people who stand to the right on elevators) to realise that the next person who sits at that table will have to put their rubbish in the bin, or they actually think it's ok to make some stranger dispose of their rubbish.

Some people seriously have zero social awareness.
