Mark McVeigh had a stellar
2006 season being ultra
consistent.

Sheed's comments: No surprises here Matty Lloyd retains his gig of captain has great leadership hopefully he can kick the four goals a game and make the difference, Scotty Lucas retains Vice Captain after being our best player in 2006 being our main target up forward and B&F winner and lastly Mark McVeigh earns deputy vice captain after having one of his best seasons in 2006 being consistent and playing all over the ground in different roles.

Kevin Sheedy '07 Post Season Interview

Reporter: Thank you for you time firstly Sheeds can you tell us your expectations of this Bomber side in 2007?
Kevin Sheedy: Well I think we can bounce back after a horrific season in 2006 and make the finals in 2007 hopefully.
Reporter: What kind of Essendon side can we expect to see in 2007?
Kevin Sheedy: A much younger side then in 07 expect us to blood a few youngsters to set up for the future a bit as well.
Reporter: What effect will James Hird's farewell year have on the boys?
Kevin Sheedy: Not much it's live every other year do your best to win but there might be a spark of extra flair due to what effect Hird has had at the club.
Reporter: Lastly can you tell us about the batch of 06' Super Draftees Essendon picked up?
Kevin Sheedy: Absolutley, Pick #2 we got Scott Gumbleton a skinny 18 year old who is 197cm 90kg a skinny lad but bucket loads of talent probably will play around 10-15 fames to give him a taste of AFL footy. Pick #18 we snagged Leroy Jetta who we rated a top 10 prospect we were stoked when he lasted till our priority pick he is still a skinny forward crumber who will eventually turn into a midfielder fast like a jet will play around half a dozen games this season due to his small body. Pick #20 Tommy Hislop a hard centreman that can go forward and kick a few a player we have been looking for will play the whole year due to his ready made body. Pick #36 Alwyn Davey brother of Aaron is exactly alike Aaron in playing abillity need I say more? Will play the whole year. Pick #42 Bachar Houli the first Muslim ever to play the game is a silky Midfielder/flanker who sets up the play currently don't know how many games he will play this year depends on how everything pans out and lastly with our last pick (52) we took Kyle Reimers a forward flanker with silky skills and goal sense wont debut this year more of a long term progect.
Reporter: Thank you for your time.
Kevin Sheedy: No problem.

Mark Bolton: With Matthew Lloyd out suspended for 2 weeks, Kevin Sheedy has rolled the dice on Mark Bolton to play full forward. Though he dosen't expect to play the whole match there most likely to rotate with Adam McPhee & Patty Ryder. Much will rely heavily on Scott Lucas to kick the goals.

Essendon defy the odds to record a big win

Essendon have recorded a 35 point win at AAMI Stadium infront of 45,000 odd thousand shocked fans. Thanks to the efforts of Scott Lucas & Andrew Lovett bagging 8 goals between them up forward whilst Dustin Fletcher was the cheif in defence restricting Adelaide to just 8 goals whilst kicking 15 themselves.

The first quarter saw an amazing start with Brent Stanton finding the ball 5 times inside the opening minutes before setting up the first goal of the match to Mark Bolton who made a great start at full forward. Though it was Scott Lucas presenting very well whilst kicking 2 of there sides 7 opening quarter goals.

Adelaide fought back in the 2nd quarter though wasted a few easy chances, Andrew Lovett was running ragged in the midfield finding the ball 16 times up until half time whilst kicking 2 goals. Bachar Houli & Tom Hislop were outstanding in there debuts sharing 17 disposals between them at half time whilst a goal to Tommy Hislop.

With Essendon holding a comfortable 26 point lead at the major break they looked every bit as hungry and committed in the 1st half when debutant Alwyn Davey found the big sticks twice in the space of 4 minutes of the opening 3rd term. Jobe Watson just kept finding the ball with 11 disposals in the quarter. Essendon managed to extend there lead to 27 points heading into the all important final quarter.

Henry Slattery went in the midfield and was quite a revelation racking up 11 disposals whilst taking 11 marks for the match he managed to kick the opening goal of the quarter followed by back to back goals by speedstar Andrew Lovett. Essendon looked unstoppable taking a 45 point lead before Mark Ricciuto pegged a goal back to reduce the embarrasment to 35 points as Essendon went onto to record a memorable win at AAMI.

Essendon too quick for a depleted Fremantle outfit

Essendon have gone 2-0 and sitting 2nd on the ladder after a strong 39 point win against Fremantle. Matthew Lloyd made a sensational return booting 6 goals as captain which also includuded 5 in the first half. Brent Stanton was sublime in the midfield as they outclassed Fremantle all day.

In the first quarter Essendon picked up from were they last left against Adelaide outscoring Fremantle 6.2.38 to 2.1.13 as Essendon's pace was far to superior to that of Fremantles. James Hird started half forward and kicked 2 late quarter goals after Lloyd kicking the opening 2 of the match.

Essendon came out the same outfit in the 2nd quarter running Fremantle ragged with Jason Winderlich running across half back to kick the opening 2 goals in the quarter though Matthew Lloyd stole the show as new captain of the club with 3 goals inside 4 minutes to race to a mammoth 56 point margain. A late minute burst saw Chris Tarrant kick 2 much needed goals as the half time margain blew out to 49.

After kicking 13.4 in the first half Essendon were just hopeless infront of goal kicking 6 behinds straight before it took a captains goal to break the drought after Fremantle made a mini comeback kicking the opening 3 goals of the quarter. Essendon kicked 1.8 for the term but still managed a 41 point buffer heading into the last break.

Matthew Pavlich who had no influence on the game what so ever kicked his first and second goals in the opening minutes of the last quarter.
