You only gift farewell games to club legends.

Neither Young nor Dywer quite fit into that category.

Young got a healthy retirement cheque while spending most of his time in rehab or the VFL, Dywer got a chance to play in the AFL... not as if the club owes them anything.

Its another opportunity to get more gametime into youngsters... particularly when there are some guys who have struggled to get/stay in the 22.

Neither guys really demands a first team spot, and its unlikely that either will still be here next year. Also aren't of the status that warrant a "farewell game"

I have a feeling any player who doesn't qualify for VFL finals has to get special permission to play for them this week. Otherwise they could just throw Pendles and co. in to guarantee that first finals win.

Nope, we could play Pendles, Brown and Cloke in the VFL this week if we wanted to, there are no restrictions at all on player selection this weekend.

As for farewell games, I don't like them for anyone, let alone 2 fringe players.

It's only because he hasn't played seniors and everyone's already written him off as delisted. No point in flogging a dead horse. Toovey, White, Blair and Goldsack still have pulses though

He only gets off lightly because he hasn't played seniors plus it's all been said before. If he had been gifted an AFL game this year, keyboard warriors would have worn down the tips of their fingers and whites of their nails banging out posts bagging his intestinal fortitude and scorning his skill set. Be thankful he didn't play AFL. Let him slide quietly into anonymity.

Yep, and we still have to have 22 players in the senior side irrespective of their VFL qualification so players like Maynard, Moore, Reid, Marsh and Scharenberg all still likely to play seniors.

Oh Im not saying that I think he should have played, nor that he should be getting bagged, just that its interesting how solid contributors have copped it but non-contributors haven't
