gday folks

just had Telstra Bigpond reinstalled.

the reason we had it disconnected about 6 months ago was because someone was using our bandwidth and our usage was going up by 300-400MB a day even though we weren't even using the internet.

We had a firewall for a while which stopped but eventually that was useless as well.

I've never really tried to install one, so I have no idea what to do.

anyone got any help?

cheers!

I'm assuming you mean a personal firewalls?

There are quite a few out there, I've always found Zonealarm to be pretty effective. Its simple to install, and extremely simple to customise.

Even better the basic package is free.

I've struggled with Firewalls, and have now given up on them. They often block the internet at the wrong times, prevent certain Java applications from running, and aren't as effective as people make them out to be.

You need to run half a dozen programs to keep the bad things away (virus scanners, firewalls, popup killers, etc).
