If we dont see real improvement from our kids this year there must be an overhaul of our Football development coaches incl senior coach as it would be evident that we would not have the right people at punt road to develop our kids. ( I still cant believe Jade Rawling is our two's coach)
Other clubs seemed to develop their kids much quicker and better than ours. We can pick up the most talented kids in the country but until we get the right people to develop there skill, mental & physical strength, hunger and passion not only to play league football but also to play for the Richmond Football Club our early draft picks are as good as wasted. Bar Deledio who seems that he wants to be a league footballer our other early picks even dating back to Fiora have not progressed at all. (At least Deledio hits the gym in off season, we drafted 5 kids in the top 20 that year and Deledio was the youngest but he seems like the only one that has the body to play league football.)
Ottens has developed but he had no desire in playing for the RFC, $$$$$$
I am not expecting to make finals or even win 8 games but i am expecting to see real improvement from our young players & no excuses for their non performance, ie its his first pre season at the club.... You dont need a preseason to have hit a 20 meter target with no pressure.
I think too many excuses are made for our young kids.
Hyde Tuck Tivendale should not play one game for our club this year. Raines should be told he has one chance and if he doesnt start hitting targets he will be dropped.
In Polo Edwards Connors Casserly Cogs.

tigers got a lot of duds in the draft since wallace/miller came on board, time to slash them. id rather keep the seniors than persist, they are write-offs.

Some good, rational points Delids. Next step is to send your post to Miller. It makes more sense than our players "actions" on Friday night.

Yet, I will STILL give Terry Wallace the benefit of the doubt 'cause he remains our head coach. And I admit that I know nothing about coaching - but on the other hand I wasnt born yesterday and the signs arent encouraging. :confused:

I'm hoping the tactician in him has something up his sleeve and is playing where he doesnt want to show his hand too early. :cool:

The big concern is the ongoing inability for Richmond to turn talent into greatness on the field. We have a very limited list of Richmond career players that have delivered consistenly on early potential. Furthermore, our draft history suggests that we don't even back ourselves to develop players, and instead try to import recycled players.

And we ain't too good at that either!
...Justin Blumfield anyone?

Anyway, before everyone sinks the boots in, we need big seasons from the following, and Tiger fans will know we are heading upwards;
* JON
* Hughes
* Schultz
* Jackson
* Meyer

Just some development, that's all we ask!

You twit, the seniors are the problem.
Here here , everyone is going to see plenty of improvement from the kids the problem is that they are kids. If you took Richo , Bowden , Johnson and Brown out of our team we would have the youngest side in the comp by a country mile. The young blokes will improve alot this year because they are talented natural footballers that just need to get game time in first grade. Don't get carried away by one game i don't think the coaching staff even wanted us to win.

Nathan Brown's career form peak was the first 11 rounds of 2005 before he broke his leg. Mark Graham was dumped by Hawthorn and finished 2005 as one of the better defenders in the league. Shane Tuck was recycled from Hawthorn, who would dearly love him back for the price he left for - nothing. Simmonds has been good value despite his injuries, Polak has so far done enough to justify a very small drop in draft selections. King is a 'recycled' player who will be very good for us.

Knobel didn't work out purely through bad luck but was good when he was fit, so really the only bad mature age recruiting decision we've made during the Wallace era was Kingsley, who was never anything but insurance and treated accordingly.

As to 'career' players, we can hardly judge harshly against Wallace and the current coaching staff when the oldest players he's recruited are still football babies.

Just some development, that's all we ask!

We've had development, it's just that some people have no patience and unrealistic expectations.

Our no.1 onballer (Foley), best tall defender (Thursfield), and best small defender/onballer in waiting (King) were all rookies. Players nobody else saw fit to draft, but would all love to have now.

How else can you define 'good development' if it's not based on turning players nobody else wanted into good AFL footballers?

Six out of eight 2004 draftees (Deledio, Tambling, Pattison, Polo, McGuane, Thursfield - with Meyer still a maybe and Limbach dumped) are progressing well, what else do you people want?

JON starring after only one full pre-season and a number of confidence shattering injuries?

Casserley starring after only one full pre-season and a number of confidence shattering injuries?

Hughes kicking 50 goals a year before he's 21?

Connors, Edwards and Reiwoldt showing more than they did in their first season with none of them close to physically ready?

Coburg played a grand final last year against all odds, and it wasn't because we had a team stacked full of AFL listed mature players who couldn't quite crack it at AFL level.

Our development has been demonstrably above average (average is getting two and if you're lucky three decent players worth retaining per draft) and it will get better as we get more games into the younger players.

In the past , we have been the quick fix fast food McDonalds of recycled players:-

Circa 5 years ago
I'll have a Billy Nicolls thanks, would you like a Tim Fleming with that Mr Miller. Why yes and while your at it, can I have a back flanking apple turnover? Yes, our Simon Fletchers have just come out of the oven!!!

Fast forward 2008?
I'll have a Jordan Big SpacMahon thanks, would you like a soft serving Mitch Morton with that?

Hey Razorwire, those glasses are possibly a little too rose-tinted. No-one has been more patient than us Richmond folk. It can't be that every other AFL team that has bottomed out, and bounced back has just been luckier than us.

No finals since 2001, and 3 campaigns in 25 years means that you've gotta be forgiven for thinking that we'll continue to repeat the mistakes of the past. There's not enough evidence to the contrary.

Last season adds to the concern. It was more than injuries...
Several players are not progressing as fast as hoped, that's if you put them up against draft picks of other teams with equivalent games.

We want the picks to progress fast, because the few more experienced players also struggle to play consistent football.

We've tolerated mediocrity for 25 years, so enough's enough.

this is make or break year for the coaching staff & most of the players. If they can't feel the pressure and dont respond appropriately then we will know we are dealing with uninspiring helpless losers.

If this happens, then it's time for a clean out and start again, for another total rebuild and another 5 years wasted.

These players have to know right now they are playing for their lives and there is no tomorrow after 08 for most of 'em.

If you think this is being harsh, this is nothing compared to the carnage the Tiger army will unleash on these poor souls. The Tiger army was quiet last year, the patience has almost worn out now.

Lift & show ticker boys.

most of the drafts have shown stuff all improvement from there first year. the squad is full of players not really up to afl standard. i doubt a number on the list will ever improve and they would have wasted spots on the list for many years.
