alot of angst and anger towards Damien Hardwick's coaching ATM and rightly so. But a more critical matter IMO lies in the recruiting team. Over the past 5 years (last year withstanding) we have select an assortment of honest battlers that can obviously play footy, but their upside is limited. Combined with Dimma's equally limited coaching, these meat and potato type players cannot take us to the next level. Should Harwick be jettisoned by years end (which is looking likely) a complete overhaul of the recruitment team is also required.

The question is, who should be our next head recruiter?

I'd imagine if Dimma goes so will the assistants, recruiting staff etc etc. Who to replace him with? No idea, it's not like the coaching world where everyone seems to know who are the next in line. Probably depends on the coach and his coaching philosophy and trying to poach a 2IC from a club who has a similar style of play the new coach wants to implement.

In fairness back then he was on his own and we needed to add to our recruiters not cut them.

I'd also like to think we may invest more funds in this area. We really have cheaped out. I'd love to know where that $6 million went. Bloody expensive VFL team :o

You know where some of it went.....

Despite this being rolled out by the club it wasn't quite the case and we most certainly weren't behind at least two other AFL clubs who have had far greater success .

Not quite sure what you mean? We had 1 recruiter. The rest were scouts who had other jobs outside of that. Success just isn't going to come from that. Even with our "beefed up" department we had guys watching up to 8 games on the weekend from memory. Just my opinion but that is too much.

I would love dearly to piss eddie off. Throw the kitchen sink at Hine.

People only need go look at the list of rookies and 4th rd rnd/ late nd picks that have succeeded at that club under Hine. It seems they also mainly target blokes who have a crack and have a ready made defensive set to their games.
On their list atm.
Blair, Crisp, Dwyer, Goldsack, Keefe, Langdon, Marsh, Oxley, Seedsman, Sinclair, Swan, Thomas, Toovey, Williams, Witts, Frost, Gault.
The earliest is Swan at pick 58 in the 4th round. They also had Lumumba, Wellingham, Maxwell, Macaffer, all rookies i think. some others i can think of Martin Clarke, Danny Stanley.
Vast majority taken since we have had Jackson. It doesnt include 2nd and 3rd round picks.

As much as i hate them you have to give credit where its due.

He has an excellent Qld network from what I can gather off that list. Keefe, Oxley, Thomas and Beams as well.

We have just recently added Luke Williams who had a pretty good grounding at Geelong.

I wouldn't mind seeing him take over tbh. I think he will be huge for us BUT we probably won't see the fruits of it for awhile.

Collingwood have so many development coaches as well. It's not all about the recruiters. Buddy could've been a turd if we had drafted him.

We had one full time recruiter which wasn't any different to at least two other clubs that I know of . Watching eight different games upon a weekend is no big deal IMO !

I think williams will take over just hope we get rid of one of the other williams first .

That's true. I wonder if he felt the same as our guys.

But he left Carlton because they took Cripps and he didn't like it. Cripps looks like your prototype big midfield beast.

Who did we take?
Lennon. In fairness we needed a point of difference in the types we take that year. Had kind of dug a hole.

I think the club has underestimated how hard it is to improve fitness base though. Doesn't help that our fitness staff are crap but that's another story.

Is he the same guy that was pissed off Carlton took Cripps?

If so, Hmmmm.
Not exactly like that Bob.
He was briefed with what to identify, he did and was told that they had made their choice.
The two blokes he'd identified have been pretty good too.
The story I know is that he accepted that but the later picks were also ignored and he just thought well what the **** am I doing here?
