From Hell

Saw this film last night and thought it was quite good, based on the famous serial killer Jack the Ripper. Probably not for the faint hearted as it gets quite gruesome at times, also Heather Graham is one beautiful prostitute.

Anyone else seen it? Opinions?

I saw it last week, I thought it was very good, but many of my mates hated it.

It was gruesome, but it was necessary to add to the feel and terror of what the Ripper was like.

Good point, very dark and cold would have hated to live in the East End of London during the time, the movie really captured that well.

I must be really de sensitised now as i didn't find it that gruesome or disturbing..Good film though still...

Well, no personally I didn't find it gruesome, but it was a little more that most movies offer.

I would use that scene where one of the last girls to die had her throat cut and we saw the 'front-on' shot as an example...

I watched it last December (the wonders of pirated VCD's ), and found it a bit boring. Good ending though...

I assumed his illness and the fact he couldn't get over to Ireland to pork Heather Graham finally got the better of him and decided to call it a day.

Interestingly I was doing a bit of research on Jack the Ripper and it turns out that Mary Kelly got murdered which isn't the case in the film, for more on JTR checkout : http://www.crimelibrary.com/

Apparently the Sir William Gull/Royal Family/Freemason conspiracy is one of the more 'popular' theories on the Ripper.

Just doing some reading on the Ripper, most of the things that occured in the movie were quite accurate, there was indeed an Inspector Abberline and a Jewish man was among the early suspects, they even arrested a Severin Klosowski (aka George Chapman).
