In the next few months my work is looking at doing some fundraising for a charity. It looks like I will be the one organising the effort so I thought I'd ask here for some suggestions/ideas.

We're looking to raise in excess of $5000, rather than just asking everybody for straight up donations I would like to try and make it a bit more of an involved process.

A few ideas that i did have were:

Doing a sausage sizzle/morning tea at work to raise some dollars, not sure if that would bring in much though. Has anyone organised a sausage sizzle fundraiser at Bunnings before? Was it easy/successful/worth it?

Another thought I had was hitting up some local businesses for some goodies/vouchers and then doing a work place raffle.

Organising a function for work colleagues (Golf day, bowling, wine tour), putting an extra 10% on the per head charge as a charity markup or trying to get a bit of a discount because the function is for charity.

Any feedback/suggestions would be great?

Is this limited to just the people you work with, or is it going to involve the public?

If the latter you should organise a car boot sale (if you can find the space) and charge people for a spot, $20-$30 is standard I think.
It's a bonus because you can also organise extras like a sausage sizzle, car wash etc etc.

Looks like its going to be a sausage sizzle of some sort with the ideas you're getting.

May I ask what is the charity? because what your work could do is find bosses and managers at other businesses that might have a soft spot for that charity, ask them to donate goods and services to cause.Either to be auctioned off or as prizes in a raffle

If you're going to have a sausage sizzle, outside of a busy netball court on a cold wintery Saturday works well. You're going to need contacts to get that happening.

But it depends on what your charity is. Raising money for the unions is going to go down really with a sausage sizzle in front of a Toorak golf club.

How big / what sort of work place?

One easy idea is to do a wine fundraiser, we did one with this mob, just get all your employees to share the deal with their family and friends, they can order direct so you don't even have to collect the money and the company will keep tally and give you what you raise for your charity. I think from memory it was pretty good, about $50 a dozen went to the charity for very little work.

What charity are you collecting for?

BTW if you want to do a sausage sizzle at Bunnings, I think you will find you have to book months in advance.

Trivia nights are easy enough to organise if you have-

- Someone to run it.
- A heap of volunteers to source prizes.
- Enough people in your network to fill a heap of tables.

A lot of bowling clubs etc are happy to host them (because they make a fair bit over the bar), and you can charge $10-$20 per head. Also have spot prizes and comps on the night.

Did one for my kids' kinder and we raised about $3000
