I've had enough of the Gaspar bagging. I'm sick of looking at every thread and seeing him getting a serve left, right and centre. I reckon we should show some more support for the guy who I remember held our whole defence up once upon a time and then did his knee unfortunately resulting in a loss of form. I remember going to the footy and watching Gaspar spank every full forward he played on. I'd love to see him show some of that form and if he's in the team I'll support him the whole way.

I'm not denying I haven't been frustrated at him, on the weekend I found myself yelling at him but really he is down on form and has been for the past year or so. I reckon if Wallace is a good enough coach he'll get him back to at least 80%. Right now he's not even 12%.

He knows he's isn't travelling very well and he doesn't need the whole richmond faithful to tell him so. Let's hope he gets back to some old form.

I agree. I think it's funny that everyone pumps up Jackson, Hartigan,Roach,Hyde<raines etc, when you will all be paying out on them in all likelyhood come 5 years time.If we cant give our better performed players a little grace, god forbid what sort of a caning blokes like Hartigan will get when people wake up to the fact that whilst a goer, will be an ordinary player at best. Why would you want to play for the tigers? seriously

Exactly, the players will develop and improve by focusing on their positives. That cheer for Gaspars kick was ridiculous and was a small sample of why Richmond supporters are called feral by many others.

I dont think we really bash him Grechy,it's just that so many posters seem to have an awful lot to say about him,in a negative way.

Even the Gaspar faithful have returned their yamukahs' to the temple of Moschiach

Many of us feel his career is over but at the same time wish him well for the remainder,it's just that not many are expecting it to eventuate.

That is a fair point, however the majority of the bagging he gets is correctly due, he is not in good form, obviously.
Who cares, he can't expect to play like that and not get flak over it.
I think you will find alot of people have given up on bagging Gaspar and have moved onto Chaffey and Tivendale. LOL :)

How long should we wait for Gaspar to get his form back before we can have a go at him?

In my opinion, if he is playing schit, we should say it as it is.

Gaspar's been good for us in the past, got 3 finishes in the top 3 of the B&F (1st, 2nd and a 3rd) together with two All-Australian guernseys, but that should not stop us from evaluating where he is at right now in his career.

I thought he showed positive signs in round 1 of being back (even though Kingsley kicked a few on him) but he was terrible on the weekend.

He went to the board after our first good year and asked for money that is for the James Hirds or Voss' of the world.

This caused tension amongst players with Campbell throwing his crutch at Brayshaw with what was left for him. Alot of players were murmuring that he pulls out of games with injuries that Archer would put a bandaid on (Not referring to his knee reco by the way).

He had us over a barrel and caused Benny Gale to be retired a year early when he was playing some good football for us.

sadly we should have let him go to freo, but he is a richmond player and i will back him in as long as he is. yeah his form is crap, but give him a chance to turn it around before calling for his head.

The Brad Ottens sage gives me hope we won't make the same mistakes we did with Gaspar and Holland ie being bent over by a player and being stuck with a huge contract and something goes wrong.

I am very new to Big Footy but have been a Richmond supporter all my life or at least since 66. Some things havent changed in that almost 40 years. Sadly one of our big faults is that in Round 2 of a new season where new coaching, new players and new structures are all 15 milliseconds old, us true believers can find the most productive thing to dicuss is who is playing like crap right now and who we need to sack!

Before we all sharpen our knives perhaps we should at least try and find the positives and encourage a different feeling around the club and give em all a fair crack at adapting. It aint gonna be easy on anyone but I think we have to assume some responsibility to assist a change in the footy club over and above the price of membership.

I don't really care too much about analysis after wins like Sunday, the fact that we found a way to win in a time on period in any game against any opposition was a huge plus in my humble opinion. Maybe there is a few more ahead, maybe not but I'm sure ********bagging stuff this early won't bring too many more in a hurry.

Lets put our selves in Gaspars shoes. You have just come off your best season in which you helped your team into Prelim final. You recieve ALL Australian Honours. Arguably the best Fullback of the season. For unknown reasons your coming out of Contract.
West Coast and Freo are near the bottom, have high draft picks and has thrown you a huge deal to return to your home state. Sounds tempting.

Now RFC in it's wisdom recognises the influence you had in your clubs fortunes, gives you a counter offer to consider.
Both deals equates to big money.

You decide with the RFC. Only to bagged by your supporters after recieving a knee injury.

unfortunetely many tiger supporters are meatheads. Anyway Gas played well againsit Geelong apart from 1 miskick and against Hawthorn he played well in the first half. When he was on Williams he became lazy because he didn't expect him to take some marks.

He's had one good game, one mediocre game. This board voted him in our best players in round 1. He's accepted a paycut. FFS give him a go.

Bagging gaspar is a pointless activity. Particularly when you consider he is trying his heart out.

His attack on the ball the last two weeks has been very good.

I think we should be realistic about his skills. It didnt bother most of the people here in 2001 when he was all australian FB.

He was horrible last year. Heard footsteps too often and had abosutly no confidence in himself.

He wasn't ready to play AFL football after his knee. I have th upmost repect for him for comming back after such a injury. When he was in his prime he was one of the games greatest - thus 2 time All Australia and deserves repsect.

Sadly today he is a below average key defender, one of the poorer in the league. If he can get back to 60/70% it will be great for the club and Gaspar.

So far this season he has been average/poor but still trying his upmost which sadly is not enough. He is being used as a scapgoat for a overall poor performace. Although he is not a Mal Micheal or Scarlett he is decent and when in form a good player. When you look at the alternitive; Morrison, Hall he is worth persising with.

If trying your heart out was the only criteria for football then Tim Fleming would be our best player rather than delisted.

Rapidly the game is becoming more and more about skill efficiency and decision making. The best fullbacks today can't afford to be unco's like a Silvani or a Mick Martyn were. They are expected to provide run and hit targets and direct the ball out of the backline.

Gaspar has been a great at shutting down his opponent in the past but his kicking to team mates has always been shocking and remains so still. He made clanger after clanger on the weekend and had we been playing against a decent side would have been made to pay big time.

Even if Gaspar gets back most of his speed, which he probably will later on the in the year, he will be let down by his disposal and will thereby put a lot of team mates and the whole backline under the pump severely.

Very true John. But Tim Fleming was Never an All Australian and did not have a knee reconstruction as an excuse.

Richo did not come back to his best for years after his Knee reco.

In my opinion, Gaspar has shown a lot more this year, than he did all of last year put together. Considering that he does have the ability to shut down the best opposition forward, and we have no one else that can play that role, and he is putting his body on the line, I think we should give him a go.

You will have noted Chaffeys reluctance to tackle that hawthorn player on the wing. Gaspar isnt our worst defender by a long way. I wasnt at all kind with my criticisms of gaspar last year. But he has shown some positive signs of improvement this year.

Its hard to pinpoint disposal when you have no one supporting you. A really dissapointment of our game against hawthorn was the lack of talk and lack of 1 percenters, particularly shephards.

I am definately willing to give him a go. I still rate him as our best key position defender, but his skills have always been a worry and will continue to be so.

Thought he was good the first week, but let's be honest, getting beaten by a muppet like Williams and making about 5 clangers on the weekend is nothing short of embarassing.
