It's a "choice" between paying $4,000 for private health insurance or paying $2,000 in Medicare Levy Surcharge, after already paying $4,000 in Medicare Levy.
Im saying if there was a better Medicare there wouldnt need to be that choice but you seem to ignore that

Probably time for a separate wage underpayment thread.

The underpayments were primarily due to managers working long hours or penalty-rate periods that reduced their hourly rate below the award minimum.

The wage bill was revealed as new award rules coming into effect on March 1 will force employers across a dozen industries to record the start and finish times as well as unpaid breaks of salaried staff, from administrative employees to law graduates.

This sounds it is/will be a complete cluster.

George wants to be on t.v. again. I think unlikely to get a start.

Imagine if politicians had to clock on and off and pass a breath test before being allowed in to the chamber...

Old super used to be insane.
Super SA used to have a scheme where putting in a little additional super while working meant theyd pay 75% of your salary once you turned 60. Theyve stopped that now but id imagine thats costing a shitload. Especially when those in it wouldn't have been contributing all that long given super only came in in 1991

Pretty much all the old govt pension schemes were like that. Back then the public service didnt pay much, so it was effectively a slightly better age pension.

But these days the salaries are much higher even at the bottom level.

Private health is invaluable for stuff like knee surgeries, bulging disc surgeries, shoulder recos, that sort of stuff. You have to wait months, even years for that in the public system, with private health you can get it done when ever you want and by whoever you want.
That's what the advertisement says. My old's found it doesn't always work that way - More often than not, whenever they needed a bit of a tune up they were getting pushed into the public system anyway. Waste of money. They ended up ditching their insurance about five years ago and haven't noticed any drop in quality of care they receive. They definitely aren't lefty's and they can definitely afford private health.

Fair enough for that's who like the peace of mind, and have gotten value out of it. Given insurance companies make out like bandits, it does make me question the value of it.
