Getting Better

Good game, but I felt if we were a good (top 8) side we'd have beaten them by 10 goals. Just didn't have that killer instinct. That said we were missing a few key players.

Seeing Daniher and Pears stand up so well in defence was great. I rated Pears on what we saw of him last year so wasn't shocked to see him do well but I was amazed at how good Daniher looked out there. In the last fortnight we my have found our 3 tall defenders for the next decade.

Zaharakis was sensational too. Looks very smooth and composed - and his disposal was a delight to watch, especially his kicking to space in front of leading forwards a couple times. We've really missed guys in the midfield who can do that consistently (like joey, mercs, cara, rioli, hird to name a few), so hopefully this weekend was no exception.

Loved Quinn's dash. Made fools of a few.

Looking forward to seeing the highlights tonight .

Haven't seen it yet because here in the UK the televised game was the WC Squeagles against pr0n Adelaide . Two dull sides playing dull footie .

Not to go off topic , but how gay are those pr0n Adelaide clash guernseys . With the little white shorts and socks , it looked like a 1980's Wham video .

It doesn't matter that it's his 5th ever game of football. If he costs us a goal, the umpires aren't going to take that goal off the opposition's tally, because the poor lad's Irish and doesn't know the game well.

McVeigh needs to come back in. Possibly Jetta, Houli, Lonergan and Bellchambers as well.

There needs to be players to come out of the team, and Quinn needs to be considered on his merits, not on his nationality.
Definitely
McVeigh the biggie
I feel as soon as he's 100% (might be this week, might be week after) he'll come in for Quinn

I don't think anyone's kidding themselves we're there - yet
I'm hoping (roughly) finals 2010 & a serious crack from 2011
What we did see was 2 supposedly rebuilding sides go at it & we came out well on top. They were an older, bigger, more seasoned team on (almost) every line
The only place Freo had any real crack at us was in the middle, and we're without 3 of our good inside midfielders.

question (to anyone) - Were they roughly full-strength? No "big names" missing that I could pick

If Ryder is to play forward, I think that at this stage, it needs to be out of the square. He still tends to get lost a bit in the field of play, but he can expose backmen with his pace, height and agility from the square.

Apart from our under 21's improvement, a big plus for our side has been the form of Winderlich. His run, carry and skill are very important to our side.

I'd give Quinny another go this week against Carlton and play him on a Garlett. His speed against the blues could be important. Last year Carlton didn't cope with our speed, so it will be interesting to see how the game pans out this week. Hille/Watson and our young backline are going to be hugely important this week.

Bump.

Things are definitely looking better after defeating Carlton and the Pies. It may be premature, but I say that We Are the Champions.

We are the Champions? Haven't really left yourself many places to go. What happens if we made the top 8, or if the stars aligned and we made top 4. We are the Champions doesn't even give you wiggle room to post another youtube video if we won a flag, you've already gone that far. And after what? Beating Carlton and Collingwood. Disappointing PP, disappointing.

:p

Always 'See the Bombers fly up' after a top 4 finish ;) Admittedly, if that were the case we'd have used it more than we are the champions.

It would appear that I have painted myself into a corner, but I will just have to get inventive. :thumbsu: I should make it a weekly event.

This one is for all the overly arrogant Hawks fans before the match. I bet they are mystified now, heh.
