Our goal kicking lately has been.... hmmm.... not so good? So who are our best in front of the big sticks and how do they actually compare?

Who do you want to be kicking after the siren for the win? In whose hand do you not want it?

establishing some benchmarks...
The greats
Lockett 1360 goals from 1950 scoring shots = 69.74%
Dunstall 1254 @ 66.17%
Ablett Snr 1030 @ 59.88%

Some contemporaries
Betts 66.13%
Kennedy (WC) 64.14%
Lynch (GC) 63.1%
Reiwoldt, J 62.9%
Tex 60.59%
Buddy 58.38%

So how do our blokes stack up?

Well Lids has kicked 8:2 and ZGL has 4:1 - both @ 80%, deBoer has 13:4 @ 76.47% but those sample sizes are a bit small.

So minimum of 50 scoring shots for the Giants....

Lobb 54:28 @ 65.85
Patton 124:70 @ 65.26
Jezza 298:159 @ 65.21

Scully 67:43 @ 60.91
Greene 130:89 @ 59.36
Whitfield 45:31 @ 59.21

Cogs 46:39 @ 54.12
Ward 67:60 @ 52.76

Kelly 56:62 @ 47.46
Sheil 60:70 @ 46.15

Looking further down the list..
Tommo 22:21
Griff 21:20
HH 13:11
Lloyd 10:8
TT 8:7
Haynes 8:5
TOJ 2:1
Pez 1:0
Are the only ones above 50% and none by very much.

And in the “For-the-love-of-god-hand-it-off” category is Heater at 2:9 (18%)

BTW, if you take Greene’s figures from the start of 2016 when he moved to the small forward position, it goes up (slightly) to 61.54%.

Just on observation I think Pattons most likley kick a long goal regardless of angle. Ward seems to convert reliably when he needs to. Toby is the one I'd want taking a shot after the siren to win a game though, stats not withstanding.

We kicked straight in round one when the forwards and mids were running free and shots were often from good positions.
