great debut. i'm thinking to myself who the hell is this bloke?!? think pat bowden played on him and got cut to pieces, very quick on the lead and seemed very confident.
phillips looks like he has something about him too, but certainly needs to bulk up a fair bit.

On Phillips I dont necessarily subscribe to the bulk up theory. I know the game had changed but I am pretty sure I heard Kevin Bartlett say recently he never touched a weight. There has got to be a place for players of all sizes if they are good enough. Phillips knows where the ball is going to fall and shows that he knows all about front and centre. Just needs to finish his work off, but that might just be adjusting to the pace of the game.

A couple of snaps he did I think he had more time than he thought.

Phillips is a true goal sneak. He knows when to stay down and positions himself well to pick up the crumbs. Unfortunate to hit the post 3 times, he's shown to be very accurate in the reserves. I'll put that down to nerves which will diminish as his career picks up.

On Grundy, he's a big unit, he has the strength to beat smaller defenders. Has been doing that in the Canberra league for the past 1.5 years. Did the same on Patrick Bowden tonight, but the big question will come when he faces the top defenders of each team. Still, a very promising debut.

not only has the game changed - but he was kevin bartlett while most modern players are mere mortals. additionally, modern conditioning means you can put on bulk without losing pace which wasn't always the case 30 years ago.

That should be a true poster sneak. I don't think he could believe he hit the post 3 times.

Grundy had a nervous start, but soon got into the swing of things, excellent to see a new face playing well. Lets hope he gets several more chances. I wonder what difference he would've made last week, when goals were so rare in the 2nd half.

And with Malceski back the team took on a whole different look last night.

I was really impressed with Grundy, he was great. Phillips too, i felt he was getting into so much more last night, got some nice clearences and all.

The first time i saw him i was shocked. I didn't know who he was and how talented he is. But when he kicked his first goal and displayed spectacular marks, i loved him. Great and ACCURATE goal kicker! It's such a great way to start your debut!!! Phillips too! he was great, would've been a star if he didn't kick the 3 posters. Some potential!

With Hall,O'Loughlin,O'Keefe and possibly that guy who wore No.2 in the forward line I think it would be rare he would get a top class defender and even if he did ,great because that means one of the others hasn't.

he was impressive last week:thumbsu: does that mean we wont see Davis for a while longer?
I don't know if there would be too much or a direct relation there, Grundy is an old school lead/mark FF and Nick is a HFF. Nick only ever goes to the FF line for a rest or if Mick is off the field.

Nevertheless this was definitely an "alternative" forward set-up for the Swans - not a case of like for like with Grundy & Davis but I doubt it will make it any easier for Nick.

Can i post here?

I watched the swans vs tigers game last week and i, like most others was very impressed by young grundy.... he has a different look about him than a lot of other first gamers that do well first up. He looks promising and should be great player in the years to come...

P.S - Great name Grundy!!!!

that was what i saw thinking. about Grundy's current form, i don't think Davis will come back to the team in a very long time. But of course he'll play in the finals [if we make it], it would be slack if Roosy didn't choose him in the next couple of weeks. He has learnt his lesson... SAVE DAVIS! =]]
