Is this game gonna rock or what!
GTA Vice City
Welcome to Vice City. Welcome to the 1980s.
Having just made it back onto the streets of Liberty City after a long stretch in maximum security, Tommy Vercetti is sent to Vice City by his old boss, Sonny Forelli. They were understandably nervous about his re-appearance in Liberty City, so a trip down south seemed like a good idea. But all does not go smoothly upon his arrival in the glamorous, hedonistic metropolis of Vice City. He's set up and is left with no money and no merchandise. Sonny wants his money back, but the biker gangs, Cuban gangsters, and corrupt politicians stand in his way. Most of Vice City seems to want Tommy dead. His only answer is to fight back and take over the city himself.
From the decade of big hair, excess and pastel suits comes a story of one man's rise to the top of the criminal pile as Grand Theft Auto returns to the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system this October. Vice City is a huge urban sprawl ranging from the beach to the swamps and the glitz to the ghetto, and is the most varied, complete and alive digital city ever created. Combining non-linear gameplay with a character driven narrative, you arrive in a town brimming with delights and degradation and are given the opportunity to take it over as you choose.
As a major gateway to South America and the Caribbean and attracting migrants, Vice City is brimming with diverse characters, so there's a friend for everyone. It is a sociable place and the new guy in town is sure to meet all manner of friendly people in the sunshine capital of America. Athletes, pop stars, real estate developers, politicians, trailer trash, everyone is moving to Vice City to find out what makes it the number one growth city in America. But, as Tommy quickly finds out, trust is still the rarest of commodities.
Vice City offers vehicular pleasures to suit every taste. For the speed enthusiast, there's high-performance cars and motorbikes. For the sportsman, a powerboat or a golf buggy lets you enjoy the great outdoors. For those that need that sense of freedom and escape, why not charter a helicopter and see the beauty of Vice City from the air?
As the party capital of America, you would expect your ears to be seduced by a host of sultry melodies and pumping beats, but the city is truly rocking. You'll be AMAZED as you sweep through Vice City's FM dial. If you are feeling like trouble, you can tune into some driving rock, or some crucial electro, or maybe you want to slow down with some sweet soul, and there will always be some great romantic anthems if you want to really take your mind off things.
For the action man, or outdoors type, there's tons of fun things to do and adventures to be had guaranteed. For the secretive or creepy type, Vice City is full of surprises, a place where you'll constantly be surprised by the vivacious, fun-loving types who live there and the things you can discover.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is the most diverse and ambitious piece of interactive entertainment yet created. The game is developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games.
Thus ends the "sales pitch" from the folks at Rockstar Games. It is refreshing though that a games development company has actually down played their next big thing. While the copy above gives you a great insight into where vice City will take us as gamers, it doesn't need to prattle on with a bunch of the latest buzz words. In six months time, Vice City itself will be a buzz word heard around the world. It would be safe to say that Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is going to be the biggest game for a while to come when it gets released around the 25th October. Following on the back of the hugely successful GTA3 from last year, Vice City promises to offer fans of the series one of the most revolutionary titles in existance, far surpassing last years excellent effort!
The setting for this game is the fictional town of Vice City in the mid 80's. Comparisons will and are being made that it's actually Miami and although the game is based on a similar design of America's most neon city, it is totally fictional. Like GTA3, you take on the role of Tommy Vercetti, a small time hood that's got himself in some hot water....again.
From all reports Vice City is three times the actual size of Liberty City, although the "different sections" that were in GTA3 are now replaced by one massive, sprawling level. Not only does Tommy have more landscape to run amok in but his armourment is now even more powerful and extensive, ranging from hammers and chainsaws for the up close and personal feel to M60 machine guns and double barrel shotguns for those long range shots. In total there's 40 weapons at Tommy's disposal which is 25 more than in GTA3. His range of vehicles is now much larger than any other GTA game with a whopping 120 different vehicles to drive or fly around. Yes, you read correctly, fly! In Vice City, everybody's wish has been granted, you can now fly a helicopter about the place. Plus there's the much wanted motorcycle to hoon about on as well. Imagine....drive-by's on a motorbike?
Well that should get you up to speed and excited about GTA: Vice City. Naturally there's going to be heaps more news and announcements being made about the game up to release time, and you can rest assured that we'll keep you as up to date as you could be on Rockstar North's next smash-hit. We'll be updating this news article on a weekly basis so make sure to pop in every few days or so for new info, screenshots and movies. Speaking of assets for Vice City, we'll be posting up more info in this story as it gets released, plus you'll notice below a nice screenshots gallery that will grow and grow plus there's movies for you to check out as well.
And before we leave for this update, we have to tell you to check out the October issue of Official Australian PlayStation Magazine which goes on sale September 24 as it has an exclusive look at Vice City and all things Grand Theft Auto
Cant wait!

and to be honest, it was probably fun for the first 10 hours. After that first 10 hours, i just found myself going through the missions just to see if it would get any better. Unlocking the next city kept me interested for a little longer each time, but then i soon realised that there wasn't much more to this game. You don't really "play" anything in GTA3 - rather you "do" things. Hence the reason i don't believe it's that great a game.
