Why does everyone love this game so much?

I have finished it on Normal and Hard got bored with Legendary and haven't played it since.

Basically, the game sucks; you spend the first half of the game going one way and the second half coming back the way you came all the while fighting the same enemies.

Please tell me what I have to do to like this game, or what I am missing here.
 
Are you playing on a hand held TV?
Seriously Halo, not just the single player but the multiplayer, for me at least has a huge replayability factor. I just switch it on whenever I get bored of Morrowind.

The game is going to be slightly different everytime you play it. Alright so your always going to be going the same way and killing the same aliens but it's the little things that make the game replayable. When your in a warthog and get shelled by an alien tank manage to do a full barrel roll, swing the jeep around, jump on the back and level a platoon of aliens.. well it's just plain fun.

I'll admit the game can get boring after constant play even more so when your playing alone but if you and a buddy go through the main game on legendary and manage to finish it the feeling you'll get is great.

The only thing I can offer up is that......I feel sorry for you. The best FPS ever and one of the most enjoyable games I have ever played. So much replayability factor too. Especially multiplayer with your mates.

If you dont enjoy Halo then I just feel sorry for you. Easily my favourite XBox game...or game in general.

* Ok, it's not "crap", but definately the most overrated game I think I've ever seen......I can't believe people are still raving about an average FPS.....that's all it is - a FPS. Nothing innovative about it, and it's 30 frames per sec as well.......I'll still buy Halo 2 though......play it once, get completely sick of it, and never play it again, other than the occasional multiplayer party.....but even then, Powerstone 2 is the king of multiplayer party games......

Halo is BORING.

:D I love Penny Arcade.

I liked Halo, but I laugh when all these X-Box owners make it out to be the second coming of Christ.

Half of the games levels were rehashed. And the majority of them were dead boring. Has anyone honestly ever gone back to play 'The Library' or 'Two Betrayals' again? Uggh.

What I did like were the levels with outside environments. 'Halo' and the 'Silent Cartographer' were the games saving grace.

Loved that Warthog as well.

Good game. Not great.

I bought my Xbox with that Easter pack that came with Halo and Amped, sold off Amped for a measly $12 and did Halo...borrowed a mates Metal Gear Solid 2, played it to death, loved it, went back to Halo (as it's the only game I now have) and wondered why the hell I ever played that POS.

MGS2 is good but not great, but while I played it, Halo stayed a good 4 metres away from my Xbox.

Now if only I can take my mates Shenmue 2 for a few weeks...Ryo Hazuki here I come!

As for the Penny Arcade's they are gold. :D
 
Like N64 Goldeneye, Halo was a very high profile FPS release that benefitted from a general lack of competition on that platform, or on other consoles for that matter. But it simply doesn't compete amongst the slew of choice that PC gamers are blessed with when it comes to FPS.

I have no doubt that Halo PC will be popular when it is released, and will probably benefit greatly from moddability and stuff like increased resolutions (presuming some effort has been taken to spruce up the graphics since the XBox release too). The game is not bad by any means, but it is horribly overrated.


(and for the record, yes I have played it several times in singleplayer, co-op, and multiplayer. In fact my co-op game is still on my mate's hard drive, sitting one elusive level away from completion. But hey, it was 5am and at that point my brain was struggling with concepts like 'press the button'...)

Playing a FPS with a game pad is just straight out crap.

So?

Hundreds of games are rushed into release.

Metal Gear Solid 2 was rushed out because they wanted to release it in 'Year of the Snake'.

Spider-man game was rushed into release to be in sync with the movie release.

I could list many games that are rushed into release, are you saying that because Halo was rushed it deserves extra credit? It's still crap.

Im gonna get shot for this but 2 games that were raved about I hated yet I loved halo and mainly its multiplayer aspect.

Timesplitters 2: Felt like i was playing bond on n64 but not as good a version, you cant jump I mean wtf is with that.
This game sucked

I have to agree with that, Pazner Orta was pathetic. It reminded me so much of those crappy top scrolling arcade games I've never liked.

Halo 2 will be what Halo should have and could have been. Halo is the best game on XBox so you can just imagine how good Halo 2 will be and I bet every person on this thread that is bagging the game will still play Halo 2.
