Just played an interesting hand in a sit & go and I'm not sure if I played it correctly...

#Game No : 5711362647

NL Texas Hold'em $6 Buy-in Trny: 31971482 Level: 2 Blinds(30/60) - Monday, February 26, 01:57:51 ET 2007
Table Table 125825 (Real Money)
Seat 7 is the button
Total number of players : 6
Seat 7: XfenixX ( $7830 )
Seat 1: brushy8 ( $4820 )
Seat 9: Ulysse333 ( $1630 )
Seat 6: sergexxx2000 ( $1330 )
Seat 5: KevinMadigan ( $2190 )
Seat 4: ijacattack ( $2200 )
Trny: 31971482 Level: 2
Blinds(30/60)
** Dealing down cards **
Dealt to brushy8 [ 2s Ts ]
ijacattack folds
KevinMadigan folds
sergexxx2000 calls [60]
XfenixX calls [60]
Ulysse333 folds
brushy8 checks
** Dealing Flop ** [ 9h, 2c, Td ]
brushy8 checks
sergexxx2000 bets [300]
XfenixX raises [600]

What would you do here?
I find two pair very awkward especiallly when they're hands like 10 2.

I probably haven't read enough about pot-odds and the like to know what the "correct" play is but I'll tell you what I did after I get some responses.

Thanks.

It would really depend on what kind of players the other 2 were.....

If they are loose, then you would re raise again and see where you were

If they were tight, then you might just call or maybe even fold, as thye might have a set. (chances are this is not likely, as there was no raise pre flop)

Just limping in though makes it hard, chances are if they had A 10, they would have raised, same as K 10, and possibly Q 10 (of course if they have these hands, you are in a good spot)

i woulda re raised and see where i was at after the 2 bets.

only way you were really behind was against a set, or 10 9

knowing what the players are like on PP, they were probably ona straight draw

Ok, well I reraised 1200 to put sergexxx2000 all in and in the hope that XfenixX would either fold or call and we'd be able to check it down.

But..

My suggestion would have been exactly as you did.

I think you can dismiss pocket 9s or 10s, which leaves 2-2, 9-10 or a OESD. Maybe.

If he limped with JQ, he may think he has 14 outs and in a good spot.

Can't see him having TPTK or SPTK. TPGK?

That was also my thinking

just cant see him having a huge hand, as there was no raise pre flop

Agree.
He should have raised pre-flop with 99 or TT especially being the button.

Therefore the only hand that will have you beat here is 22. Maybe 9T suited perhaps.

However if he did have 22 or 9T why would he go all in here ?
Flop is rainbow so no flushes.
Undoubtedly he has the best hand then so wouldn't he want to maximise it by playing to the end !!!

The all-in bet screams bluff to me.

Ok, yeah I took the all in bet as him wanting me to fold, so yeah TPGK.

So I called,

brushy8 shows [ 2s, Ts ]two pairs, Tens and Twos.
XfenixX shows [ Th, 8h ]two pairs, Tens and Eights.
XfenixX wins 3010 chips from side pot #1 with two pairs, Tens and Eights.
XfenixX wins 10030 chips from the main pot with two pairs, Tens and Eights.
brushy8 finished in 6 place.

And he sucked out on me.

Now after the hand I thought was it worth risking all my chips on the hand, or was the correct play to fold and continue with my relatively strong position. Did I overate the strength of my hand?

No you didn't overate the strength of your hand, your play was fine. When the money went in you were ahead and he had 3 outs.

Looking at their raises and without seeing what they had, I would have put the original raiser on maybe a top pair with a low kicker, or middle pair (king 9 or something), and the reraiser with top pair (which he did have).

He decided to make his stand, which is fair enough for him, and got lucky.

It was a ridiculous play.

He's the chip leader and goes all-in on a nothing hand jeopardising his position.

Sort of play you see in a free roll.

What positions were the paying out to ?

Nope you played it pretty much perfectly he just got lucky, your re-raise was excellent and with him coming over the top you had no option, you had the best hand and he sucked out and got lucky.

spiking 2 pair from the big blind when there were no preflop raises isn't a 'nothing hand'.

His squeeze play created dead money, and predictably, he was a big favourite to win a big pot.

When you to start folding 2 pair post-flop to the smallest scent of aggression, then maybe you should START playing freerolls.

I would have played it similarly, if not the same, and in the large majority of cases, would walk away with a huge pot. If the guy had trips, good on him, sometimes you just to pay them off. That's like saying you should fold pocket aces to any aggression on the flop because someone may have 'flopped a set'. In a cash game maybe, but not in a sit and go.

Yea you're right, sorry for the rant.

hehe a perfectly good rant wasted.

You played it well, just unlucky. You get BB with 10-2 which is an absolute garbage hand and hit it perfectly. You gotta play that and you got him to go all in with the worst of it. He got very very lucky as he only had 6 outs.

BL but well played.

Thanks for the help,
Bad Beats are just part of poker but was curious to find out how others would've played it especially in a tournament.

The Ironic thing was I sucked out twice playing heads up to win my first Sit & Go the next one I played. :)

What goes around comes around.
