To think, it has been 10 years to the day since the 99 prelim.

Make sure you remind all your Essendone friends!

A mad, passionate Essendon friend of mine was travelling by bus to Melbourne at the time of the game to visit his sick Dad and therefore missed the game. He figured while he was in Melbourne he would watch Essendon play the Grand Final and organised tickets. I have yet managed to get him to watch the replay.

My dad (whose an Essendon supporter) managed to get me a ticket to the game. Probably the 5th game of football I'd been to at the time. I was only 8 at the time and didn't really fully appreciate what we (carlton) had done, however I'm very proud to say I was there.

I remind Essendon friends often :D

Still one of the best games, my video died and I got it on Name A Game a fews years back. I was lucky enough to be there too. The thought of those last frantic 10-5 minutes always put a smile on my dial!

1993 was a 50/50 game, and the best team won on the day...

1999, we were there to make up the numbers against a rampant essendon who won in the first week of the finals by 20 goals, while we lost by 80 points and by sheer luck we managed to grab a double chance and also get rewarded with a home final against the Eagles... haha... the injustice of it makes it even better... :D

Add to it, the Dons would of been $1.30 favourites the next week against teh Roos... hahahahahaha

So much Carlton love to go around - we even get a mention here!

Labor celebrates 10 years in power in Victoria

A DECADE ago today, Victoria changed.

On September 18, 1999 Premier Jeff Kennett strode to the polling booths like a man who had a date with destiny.

At the MCG, there was a similar pre-ordained ring about the preliminary final showdown between arch-rivals Essendon and Carlton.

The Blues, riding on empty, had nothing to lose; but Essendon was the premiership hotshot. Greatness was within its reach.

History records that Saturday as the day everything was turned upside down.

Against the odds, Steve Bracks led Labor to a narrow victory and Carlton snatched victory from Essendon by one point.

A day I will never forget. Earlier that day I cast my vote for Steve Bracks and in the afternoon I watched the most memorable game of football ever. Both winners were under dogs!

That game was incredible. I was there along with all my family and can remember those last 10 minutes as being the most stressful and exciting I have ever known in a football game.

It was the dying seconds I remember the most.
When Wallis grabbed that ball and ran towards goal someone behind me yelled ... No! Wallis stop the prick.
I put my head in my hands because I thought it was all over. Next thing I heard was a big mob cry of Dooooogg!
I looked up and Wallis had lost the ball.
I missed the most famous tackle ever!

The next thing I can recall was the siren going and then someone grabbing me in a big bear hug. It was my brother!

The noise at the end of the game was like nothing I had ever heard and have not heard since. You literally could not hear what the person next to you was saying.

Love it! Never, ever forget it!:thumbsu:

Quite easily the best game of football I have ever seen. I have lost count the amount of times I have watched this game, particularly in the Summer of 1999/2000.

Agree 100% HBF. My best footballing memory ever away from our Flag wins. Those were the days!

But to knock the scum out by a point takes the cake for me
i can still recall watching the reply and Sandy Roberts calling the game when the final siren went and him yelling Carlton Are into the 99 grand final 1 of the best final games ever.

Will never forget the emotion of 40,000 + Carlton supporters all jumping into each others arms in delirious celebration at the final siren.

And Kennett was ousted - what a day! :D:thumbsu:
