Does anyone else see the irony in today being Harmony Day?
I arrived at work this morning and one of the women was going from office to office handing out orange stickers and little orange ribbons in celebration of Harmony Day.
"You can't be serious", I said to her. "You honestly expect me to wear that?!". Jesus, what a load of hypocrisy.
Harmony Day my arse, as we help bomb the crap out of Iraq.
It's just as bad as Howard's sanctimony when he said he had gone to church and asked God to help keep our troops safe.

Buggered if I am going to wear their orange bull**** ribbon.

HAHAHA yes we were talking about this yesterday at work! As I work with children Harmony Day isn't such a bad thing. Teaching them that people can still get along together despite all the **** going on in the world atm (or so we had to tell them!).

I was forced to wear an orange ribbon this morning :(

Well at least you weren't forced to wear orange clothes.

It's to help raise awareness of racism in Australia.

As an umpire, I had to bring along my whistle to mark Harmony Day.

Bee, really it's not that bad. The best thing is that it raises the awareness of racism.
It's up to you. However, if you don't wear an orange ribbon or badge, people will think that you are racist. Let's hope not though.

Whistling in Harmony (Melbourne Launch)

Lisa Brown

The AFL Umpires’ Association has leant its support to one of the most important days on the Australian calendar by backing Harmony Day.

Extending the Association's Whistling in Harmony project, which is designed to promote an appreciation of officials while breaking down destructive stereotypes towards umpires, Andrew Coates, Darren Goldspink and former director of umpiring Bill Deller joined The Hon. Gary Hardgrave, Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, to launch Harmony Day 2003 in Melbourne.

Harmony Day will be held on Friday, March 21, and celebrates Australia's multi-cultural background while championing the Government's Living in Harmony initiative, which promotes unity and goodwill across ethnic diversity.

Harmony is also the keynote of the AFL home-and-away season when players and coaches from all 16 clubs will shake hands with the umpires before the start of round one matches as part of the Whistling in Harmony program.

OMG, sorry Suze. I didn't even think of that. $hit quick, I better find that orange ribbon in my bin. I am not wearing an orange ribbon and everyone in the street will call me a racist!
Bugger, bugger, bugger! I just hope I can find that ribbon before it's too late.

Two year levels at school (year 5 & 6 I think) wore orange clothes today - looked like idiots, til we figured out what for. ;) (Did look like idiots though considering it was the presentation assembly today!) They've never made a deal out of it before, I think they decided to do it today because of the war.

I'd never even heard of it before today! Gees, if I'd known, I would have adorned myself in something orange! Dammit! :D

I fully understand how you feel. I mean, shouldn't we be teaching our children INDEPENDENT THOUGHT? Obviously schools don't think so.

Well Bee...

The coalition combined arms are working harmoniously together. The air strikes are perfectly coordinated. A few hours ago, a full division of 8000 Iraqis surrendered with a spirit of togetherness.

Why don't you go ahead and wear some orange shorts, like these Hooters girls?
