Everyone to their own, but Haselby out for the season is leaving a gaping hole in the team. Although he copped flak last season, he was still ranked high in ball gets, possessions etc. Apart from that, he was looking fit as ever and ready to have a huge year, with his regular ability to stand up in the big close games and add a few goals.

On the other hand , the 2 young blokes were great last night for their first game, and geez that Ibbo is fast. The goal Palmer kicked in the last 1/4 slapped of class and confidence , Mayne chipped in with 2 [2 more than Taz, he must be hungry huh!] and has an aggressive brand of football. Although Ibbo was disgraceful in a marking contest in the 1st quarter he made up for it in the second half with a great rundown and more consistency, I can now see what the hype is about.

These 3 lads need to stay in the side regardless of ladder position and learn all the tricks from Haze in his new coaching role down at Freo oval:
i.e Hard ball gets, putting your head over the ball, big game pressure, kicking the winning goal , winning the Ross Glendinning medal etc........
A midfield with these lads [Mayne a forward flanker or possible centre runner] with a season under their belt and a fit and firing Haze next year is something worth waiting for.

Oh, I almost forgot: I DON'T WANT TO SEE TARRANT OR MATTHEW CARR IN THE SIDE UNTIL THEY GO BACK TO WAFL AND DON"T COME BACK UNTIL THEY APPRECIATE WHAT THEY HAVE PLAYING AT AFL LEVEL! THE NEW LADS MADE THEM LOOK STOOPID!!!!!!!!!

Lets not worry about who we don't have.
Lets worry about who are not performing.
Totally agree with you on Tarrant & Matt carr:thumbsu:

The reason he copped a lot of shit last year, was that he was trying to resign for a ridiculous figure. Ridiculous not because he can't play, ridiculous because his body was/did crumbling/ble.

That's harsh jeffle.

Yes he did ask for a big contract, but an ACL injury has nothing to do with fitness levels or attutude. It was just terrible luck plain and simple.

As for the OP - I agree 100%. We miss Hase in the centre square badly. You could see it last week, and it was glaring again last night.

We need blokes in there who show desperation, who fight for the ball, and have quick hands. DJ was good last night, Josh was ok, and Farmer was good. MCarr shows glacial speed...

I know he's not everyone's favourite, and time has probably passed him by, but McManus was/is someone who you can ALWAYS count on to make a good honest contest at the ball-ups.

Here's hoping Palmer, Foster and possibly Ibbo can step up into this rover role. Soon. I also reckon the Wiz should spend more time there too. Pav to stay in the forward line.

sure it was bad luck, never said otherwise, but it was foreseeable. he was getting increasingly ineffective in the centre due to injury.

Hase's ACL was forseeable?

Can you give me next weeks lotto numbers please...?

The injury to Hase was an absolute tragedy and may well have a huge impact on our year unless we can quickly identify a new clearance machine.

Nail on the Head. Was really excited about Hase's season this year. Despite injury he has been our #1 clearance winner with his quick handballs. Across the AFL for game time played (which has been his problem lately) he is in the very top of possession winners. Harvey and German seemed to be ringing the changes in the middle against the Hawks so hopefully something can be found to compensate soon.

Hase is almost a big a lose as if we'd lost Pav - In the middle noone on our list is even close to the Hase. People forget last year when we almost knocked off the Pies in Melbourne, Hase had 22 touches at half time. The guy is a ball winning machine and if he plays well we almost always won.
